2. Intertitle research
Intertitles are very important in trailer as it helps to tell or portray
the narrative or plot of the film that is being watched by the
audience. Intertitles were first introduced in ‘Silent Films’ to
emphasise on character dialogue as in them times technology
was not as great as in today’s society. Now intertitles are used
throughout a film trailer to help tell the narrative, introduce the
distribution company, producers or directors of the film and allow
the audience to feel more apart of the film with rhetorical
questions single words or fraises. Intertitles further help connect
the audience with the trailer/film as its makes the audience think
and questions, which also help in the genre of horror to builds
suspense.
3. Intertitles used In this particular
trailer begins with the company’s
production logo , the intertitle allows
the target audience be aware of the
company the film being produced
and made by. This can increase
awareness towards the film as
successful and popular logo’s or
companies would attract their
audience by this.
The first intertitle involves the
audience straight away with the
words “There is a place’’. This is
a direct approach to involve the
target audience to continue
watching more into the trailer to
find out the answer.
4. The name of a well know director is
used to help attract the audience of
people how know the director or is a
fan of him.
At the end of the trailer this
intertitle is used to say when
the film will be released, but as
this is a teaser trailer its
coming soon
With technology and software
advancing the use of special effects
are used on intertitles to give a more
dramatic effect if needed with the
intertitle. This just adds more enigma
and suspense towards each intertitle
as the narrative is told.
5. Designing Intertitles
By looking at many trailer and doing extensive
research I have come up with my own possible
Intertitles for my teaser trailer. I have to take the
genre of my film and the narrative plot into
consideration before suggesting them.
6. Typeface design
The design for Intertitles are easy to read
and also have a font related to the genre
of the film, in this case horror.
These font used as Intertitles are
bold, simple and impactful. Also
they are easy to read at any size.
Also the font is related back to the
genre of horror which help give a
clear indication to the audience
the genre of the movie. The
second font is the perfect example
of what design you can come
across in a professional film. The
blood like font shows a genre and
the sub genre of possible slasher.
The fonts not selected are examples of what
wouldn't be in a horror genre, as they are to ‘fancy’
and not to easy to read .
