Being a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing means you get to try out a lot of new looks, and Nadiya Bychkova has certainly tried plenty. From sleek straight lengths that suit a Latino vibe, to soft, slick Forties waves or Grecian curls with gold accessories, her hair on the BBC show always looks on point.
But we’re especially loving this latest do, with bouncing blonde party curls that more than a little bit remind us of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The morning after Julia’s character Vivian wakes up in the fancy Beverly Wiltshire hotel, she ditches her blonde bob wig and shows off a mass of fabulous curls that becomes her signature look for the rest of the film, as well as an iconic Nineties ‘do.
Fans were wowed by the look. “You look insane with those curls! Can’t wait to watch it,” said one. Another commented, “Nadiya you are rocking those curls.” Others begged to know how she’d achieved the curls so they could try it themselves.
It’s not the first time during this series Nadiya has gone for a full head of corkscrew curls. Back in October for the first show to include a dance off, her hair was styled into a mass of platinum curls with a block fringe and serious horizontal volume. It was a retro Seventies look to match the Night Fever dance she was doing with celebrity partner, Matt Goss. That ‘do looks like it was created with a chopstick styler.
We think this latest style, with the curls swept straight back from her forehead in a deep side parting, is much more modern and flattering. Though they are still very tight, these curls are slightly larger, and look like they have been done with a slim barrel curler, possibly tapered to give the definition on the ends. Overall they look smooth, shiny and defined, with natural movement and bounce.
Frizz is the enemy of tight curls, whether they’re natural or styled, so if you’re recreating this look at home, have a good curl cream on hand for this.
