I can think of few (and maybe zero) women who embody personal style more than Tilda Swinton.
The British actress, whose movie “I Am Love” opens in limited release today, is the ultimate counterpoint to all the Hollywood starlets running around in outfits put together by Rachel Zoe and the like.
To her, it’s not about looking “pretty” or traditionally sexy. Currently maintaining a partially shaved head, Swinton can appear androgynous and occasionally takes advantage of it in masculine suits. She has also hit the red carpet in a fur hat, oversized satin jacket and double-breasted velvet blazer (although not all at once).
Swinton may have been criticized for her choice of Oscar dresses, but it’s refreshing to see someone look womanly and elegant without resorting to the same cheap tricks others use to do so.
Plus, there are certainly those who appreciate her unusual look and her independent approach to fashion. Swinton is a muse of avant-garde designers Viktor & Rolf and currently the face of Pringle of Scotland.
