ABC looking to Cristela alum Gabriel Iglesias for its next comedy.
The network is teaming with exec producer Ryan Seacrest for a comedy starring the Cristela alum and stand-up comedian, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy, which is in development, revolves around a commitment-phobe bachelor who reconnects with his friend who has just broken up with the woman he has been with since preschool. Iglesias is attached to star.
The comedy hails from CBS Television Studios and will be written by Taylor Hamra (Nashville, Dallas, Life Unexpected). Seacrest will exec produce alongside his Ryan Seacrest Productions’ Nina Wass and Andrea Shay. Also attached to exec produce are Joe Meloche, Jay Lavender, Anthony Edwards (ER) and Cheryl Dolins. The comedy hails from Seacrest’s overall deal with CBS Television Studios.
The untitled comedy brings Iglesias back to ABC following his turn on short-lived critical darling Cristela. The network previously developed The Fluffy Shop, a semi-autobiographical comedy starring Iglesias that went to pilot last season and was passed over.
The comedy comes as more projects are being set up in the development stage with a star attached as competition for talent in the so-called Peak TV era continues to intensify.
