Rihanna is working these short nails

We love to see practical manicures are having a moment.

Rihanna has officially entered the short nails group chat. The singer and beauty entrepreneur confirmed that's she's a convert in a four-part Instagram carousel from 16th February. RiRi casually showed off her latest nail set in the third photo of the series, where her fingertips are slightly touching a very cute Valentine's Day card.

In fact, there's evidence that we're probably looking at some snippets of what the holiday was like for the mom-to-be. The first photo in the carousel shows some bouquets of flowers that appear to have been made from legos (yes, you read that correctly). In the second, one of those lego flowers lays alongside a real rose on a table overlooking a scenic view. Guys, the vibe is super romantic —  this cute photo dump must be RiRi's Valentine's Day visual diary recap.

But back to the nails. One thing we love is how short they are — so practical, so unfussy. Though we'll typically say short nails never go out of style, we can admit that they've been enjoying a bit of a moment as of late.  In the fall of 2021, many of the models that walked the runways for several New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2022 shows sported minimalistic manicures on neatly-filed nails. Granted, long talons in bright, opulent hues made their return at NYFW for the Autumn/Winter 2022 shows. Models at LaQuan Smith, for instance, were seen sporting long, "fire engine red" claws while the vibe at Markarian was all about the bling with "delicate accents and a hint of sparkle" for the models' manicures.

Yes, we love a gorgeous nail set that teeters (or even fully crosses) over the line of impracticality. But you simply can't beat a manicure that looks good and allows you the dexterity to open and close the very tiny lobster clasps on your necklaces.

Classics never die, and shorter nails lacquered in neutral hues will always be chic. But if you want to be a little more adventurous with your nail art and are in need of some inspiration, we found some super cute nail designs that are just perfect for shorties.
