Actress. She was best known to television viewers as the first female to play a Romulan on the 1960s television series "Star Trek." After graduating high school and working as an oral surgeon's assistant, she started studying acting with Stella Adler. While studying acting, she danced professionally to pay her tuition. In 1950, she made her acting debut in the film "Copper Canyon." She would go on to appear in numerous films during her career such as "The Goddess," (1958) "Scorpio," (1973) "A Star Is Born," (1976) and "The Seduction." (1982) She made her television debut on a 1954 episode of "Studio One." Besides "Star Trek," she went on to appear in such series as "One Step Beyond," "Adventures in Paradise," "The Defenders," "Gunsmoke," "Hawaii Five-O," "The Streets of San Francisco," "Barnaby Jones," "Dynasty," "The Twight Zone" and "L.A. Law." In the 1980s, she started an acting conservatory with her teacher Stella Adler and wrote a book titled "Seven Steps to an Acting Craft."
