President Barack Obama came to Detroit on Wednesday to visit the auto show, tout the auto industry and visit a few places including the Jolly Pumpkin Brewery Detroit and Shinola in Midtown Detroit, WXYZ reports.
A photo circulates on the Internet with Obama lunching with Mayor Mike Duggan at Jolly Pumpkin, along with these other invitees:
- Teana Dowdell, UAW Local 22 member working at GM's Hamtramck Assembly Plant
- Tom Kartsotis, Shinola founder
- Dr. Tolulope Sonuyi, emergency physician working on anti-violence program
Obama is here to celebrate the comeback of the auto industry that he helped bail out.
When asked, the president told reporters he did not buy a Shinola watch because he already owns one.
Jolly Pumpkin posts on Facebook:
We are so fortunate to be a small part of the amazing city of Detroit. We have been welcomed with open arms by this incredible community. To welcome President Obama to our community table today was an immeasurable honor. Big things are happening in Detroit!
An older and less glitzy Cass Corridor watering hole nearby tweets this wishful invitation to the guest and his entourage:
Hey, @BarackObama come up for a drink and a @DangerousPieDET courtesy of 3rd Street. We have skeeball too. Hope you can stop by!
