Security Center Working on Server 2003.

Post by Mooliecool »

Hey guys, I wanted to turn Server 2003 into XP since its faster but wanted the XP eXPerience! There is MSFN's guide on it, but its a bit incomplete and does not deliver 100%. WindowsX released his legendary xpconv and that is witch-craft. But it has a couple of issues. Security Center does not work and User accounts are partially restricted from control panel. Luckily it was an easy fix, a simple port from XP to Server 2003 of a cpl. But, Security Center is a whole different story. It is well known that Server 2003 does not have a Security Center (although its useless), it is actually possible to add it. What I did was take wscui.cpl, wscsvc.dll wscntfy.exe and ported those over to 2k3. From there I used a .reg to add the service, but it was broken by error 1083. Thankfully wscfix is an easy fix and that lead me to where I am now. I might release an "update" to xpconv, or some sort of follow up tutorial on how to make it work, get user panel working in normal use, as well as security center. Anyway thanks for reading guys.

Hmm, if you want a Server 2003 based XP then just go for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, security center etc. will work out of the box.

Well. The screenshot actually said "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition. Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp2_qfe.150316-2035 : Service Pack 2). So he's using a 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2003.
