Ned Flanders turned down a joint by his Canadian lookalike who told him it was 'legal' in an episode broadcast in 2005
THE Simpsons' crystal ball appears to have struck again after Canada this week legalised marijuana — which the hit show predicted thirteen years ago.
Ned Flanders is offered a "reeferino" - gibberish for a cannabis joint - by his Canadian alter-ego in an episode from 2005.
In the programme titled Midnight Rx the curly-haired lookalike approaches Ned while he and Homer are in Manitoba, Canada.
They were on a harebrained scheme along with Apu and Grandpa to smuggle cheap medicine from north of the border.
After exchanging trademark "oodlies", the alternative "Ned" pulls out the cigarette and says, "It's legal here" — to which Flanders replies: "They warned me Satan would be attractive — let's go".
It comes after the show successfully predicted the 2016 election of Donald Trump 16 years in advance.
In the 2000 episode Bart To The Future a fortune teller gives Bart a glimpse into the year 2030 when sister Lisa is elected US President — just after "President Trump".
Elsewhere the show also appeared to foresee the building of The Shard in London as well as the horsemeat scandal — and even the so-called "God particle" equation in other episodes.
On Wednesday Canada became the largest country in the world to legalise marijuana.
Queues stretched outside licensed sellers as potheads stocked up on the legal possesion limit of 30 grams of "grass".
More than 100 cannabis orders per minute were recorded on online stores.
And Ontario's government-run online store processed 38,000 orders by mid-morning.
In neighboring Quebec 42,000 orders were processed in-store and online — far exceeding expectations.
But prices were as high as £11 per gram in Saskatchewan province.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government would also introduce laws to pardon those with past convictions for possessing marijuana up to the new legal threshold.
