IMAGINE your perfect day on a Caribbean island. Basking on pure white sands with a cocktail in hand is probably the first thing that springs to mind.
But when Royal Caribbean wanted to create their own perfect island retreat for cruise passengers, their imaginations ran wild.
And when the £153million Perfect Day At CocoCay welcomes its first guests this May their perfect day will include everything from the tallest water slide in North America to a helium balloon soaring 450ft above the Bahamian paradise.
Add the Caribbean’s largest wave pool and overwater cabanas with their own private butlers and this is a whole new take on tropical fun.
It is the first in what will become a collection of private islands for Royal Caribbean guests as the cruise giant looks to provide fun both on and off its ships.
The island has been part of Royal Caribbean’s ports of call for many years but, with no dock, tenders had to transport passengers to shore. And when conditions weren’t right, that sometimes meant cancelling.
Now a new dock has been built capable of handling even the largest of the line’s mega ships. The island will now be able to welcome up to 7,000 guests at a time.
And there’s no way you’ll be worrying about grabbing a sunbed.
Oasis Lagoon will be the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean with three sandy coves lapped by shallow child-friendly waters, swim -up bar and three mini islands with in-water loungers.

The fun starts the minute you get off the ship and walk down the dock to be greeted by Captain Jack’s Galleon, a lifesize shipwreck complete with 30 water cannons to fire and the Sprayaway Geyser shooting water 80ft into the air.
Splashaway Bay will keep the kids amused for hours with fountains, pools, sprinklers, geysers, water cannons and whirlpools — plus five child-friendly water slides and two massive drench buckets.
There’s plenty of action at South Beach with volleyball, beachside basketball, football, paddle boarding, glass-bottom kayaking and zorbing (rolling in a giant inflatable ball).
You can recharge with food at the Snack Shake or wade out to the floating bar to cool with a cocktail.
Chill Island will also feature two restaurants serving complimentary food from burgers, tacos and salads to chicken wings and spicy fries.
Guests will have to pay for some of the most thrilling new activities.
The Thrill Waterpark will feature 13 slides including Daredevil’s Peak, which at 135ft is the tallest waterslide in North America, as well as a vast wave pool and a child-friendly obstacle course pool featuring a rock-climbing wall and rope swings.
Daredevil’s Tower has seven slides fit for thrillseekers and the Family Tower will have six more multi-rider slides for all to enjoy. The waterpark will cost from £30 for a half day.
Up, Up and Away will see thrill-seekers rising to 450ft for a bird’s eye view of the fun below from £30 or you can soar across the island on a 1,600ft zip line with a splash water landing from £60.
Coco Beach Club will also offer upscale fun at a price — from £40 guests will get access to an exclusive beach clubhouse, infinity pool and dining at The Grill.
And for the ultimate VIP experience, overwater cabanas will come with a hammock, water slide and private butler.
The first ship to call at the island is getting its own makeover before the big day — Navigator of the Seas is undergoing a £84million refit.
It will bring new restaurants, bars and a renovated pool deck complete with aqua park featuring the first aqua coaster at sea, The Blaster, as well as a splash park for little ones.

From May it will offer three-night weekend and four-night midweek sailings to the Bahamas including calls at Perfect Day at CocoCay and Nassau.
