Trazodone is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that can be used to treat insomnia. It can cause drowsiness that will help with faster sleep onset and sleep maintenance. Due to the serotonergic activity, trazodone can also be used to treat low mood.
- Used for the treatment of insomnia to improve sleep onset and sleep maintenance
- Initially dosed at 50 mg at bedtime and may be increased to 100 mg based on response
- May be used to treat both insomnia and depression when taken at night

Side effects may include nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, and loss of energy.
