Did your zodiac sign change? Central New York is having an identity crisis

"Hey baby, what's your sign?" You might have to change your answer.

The 12 zodiac signs were designated over 3,000 years ago, when astrology began. However, astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to gradual changes in the Earth's alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, according to NBC.

In addition, there may be a 13th zodiac sign: Ophiuchus for those born after 2009.

A recent Harris Poll found that 31 percent -- almost one in three people -- believe in astrology, reports the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. So it comes as no surprise that the change upset a lot of people.

  • Central New York reacted to their new identity crisis on Twitter and Facebook:
  • "As far as I'm concerned, I'm a Cap and stayin that way! Lol" wrote Maria Leaf on Facebook.
  • "So apparently my zodiac sign just changed from Aries to Pisces now. Not that I care," tweeted
  • "Dear people with Zodiac tattoos... SORRY! lol" jibed
  • Others were more apathetic to the news, like
  • "I'm a Cancer all the way," said Chrissie Finn. "Besides...I don't see the entire world changing this that easily. It would take YEARS for people to accept and use this theory."
  • @LindseyKins83
  • Not everyone's sign changed. "I stayed a Pisces...why am I so relieved?" posted Denise Jaquays-Tarbox.
  • "I was hoping my zodiac sign would change because of 'Ophiuchus,'" lamented

Has your sign changed? The new Zodiac chart:

Capricorn: January 20 to February 16
Aquarius: February 16 to March 11
Pisces: March 11 to April 18
Aries: April 18 to May 13
Taurus: May 13 to June 21
Gemini: June 21 to July 20
Cancer: July 20 to August 10
Leo: August 10 to September 16
Virgo: September 16 to October 30
Libra: October 30 to November 23
Scorpio: November 23 to November 29
Ophiuchus: November 29 to December 17
Sagittarius: December 17 to January 20

Rest assured, though, your horoscopes will not change as scientists have known about this change since 500 B.C. Tarot.com astrologer Jeff Jawer says Western astrology is based on equinoxes, so if you were a Cancer last week -- you're still a Cancer.
