Do's and Don'ts of Wedding Day Makeup - by Sarah DeCamp

I have so many favorite people that are in the wedding industry, and Sarah is definitely one of them! She is a talented makeup artist, and I even trusted her to do my makeup on my wedding day! I was so excited when she was willing to share some helpful tips to do your own makeup on your wedding day!

If you have opted out of booking a makeup artist for your big day, you'll likely be doing your own. I have 5 tips for having better wedding day makeup that is done by YOU.

1. Don't Overdo It

In my opinion, wedding makeup should be soft, natural, and timeless. You don't want to look back at your wedding photos and all you see is your makeup. I like to work in layers, versus gobbling it on — layers on the face, layers on the eyes. Start with a little and build from there. Allow yourself time to get ready. Go slow, have some champagne, and relax!

2. Get Used to Your Foundation

Be sure to wear your foundation for a few weeks prior to your wedding. You don't want the first time trying a new foundation to be on your wedding day, even if your best friend said she loves it. What works for her skin, might not work for yours.

3. Set and Forget

Set your foundation with powder. It can be a translucent powder or a powder that has extra coverage. Your bronzer and blush will go on much more smoothly when you set your foundation, and it will last a lot longer on the skin. (Set concealer too. You don't want your concealer creasing on you or your mascara running down under your eye.)

4. Blush

Don't forget blush. Blush brings life back to the skin. We all have a little natural blush to our cheeks, so adding blush after foundation brings back that natural look. It will look so pretty in person and in photos.

5. Lip color

Finding lipstick is a challenge. It's like finding the perfect pair of jeans. If you need help picking a lip color, Mac has a HUGE selection of colors and finishes. Go and try on few different ones and you will most likely walk out of there with your wedding lip color.

Bonus Tip

I highly recommended booking a makeup artist. Let us take away any stress of getting ready. It will make the day more enjoyable for you and we know exactly how much to put on so you look flawless. If you are getting married in a remote location and a makeup artist isn't an option then I suggest taking a one on one class with a licensed makeup artist and have her show you step by step how on how to apply your wedding makeup! After that class, you'll be a pro! I would be honored to help you if you need a class or if you want to book me to get you ready on your wedding day.
