Hungarian teenager earns second career title after fightback

Agnes Szavay battled her way to the China Open title on Sunday after coming back from a set and 5-1 down to beat world number three Jelena Jankovic. After appearing headed for defeat following the loss of the opening set tiebreak, the Hungarian teenager eventually triumphed 6-7 7-5 6-2 against her second-seeded opponent. Jankovic subsequently had her opponent on the ropes in the second set and, with Szavay appearing tired after being pushed all over the court, the Serb served for the match. But the sixth-seeded Szavay then chose the last possible moment to mount an astonishing comeback. The combination of serves measured in the 117mph bracket, plus some blistering backhand winners enabled Szavay to win six games in a row and level the match. Jankovic was also suffering with a neck problem late in a match which lasted almost three hours. But, despite the brief prospect that the match might turn on its head yet again, Szavay remained on course for her second career title.
