1 Outline
1.1 JUE-87
This manual covers the maintenance services of the MES (Mobile Earth Station) JUE-87 for Inmarsat-C satellite
communications. Refer to “Installation Manual” for installation and to “Instruction Manual”.

The Inmarsat-C satellite communications provides text and data transmission to and from Inmarsat-C MES and
terrestrial subscribers via a variety of public networks. It also carries the EGC (Enhanced Group Call) message.

JUE-87 provides the following functions;

(a) Store and Forward message transfer

(b) Distress Alert

(c) EGC message reception when not engaged in Inmarsat-C traffic (Inmarsat-C Class 2)

(d) Position and/or file transfer by a polling command from shore using store and forward message transfer

(e) Scheduled position and/or file transfer using store and forward message transfer

(f) Position and/or data reporting using data reporting protocol specified by Inmarsat (depends on LES facility)

(g) Long-Range Identification Tracking (LRIT) function (by improved version of data reporting)

(h) JCmail application via LAN.

(i) RMS (Remote Maintenance System by JRC) via LAN

(j) Bridge Alert Management (BAM) function in accordance with IEC62923-1 and IEC62923-2

(k) EGC Output function in accordance with IEC61097-4 ed3.1.

3.3 Explanation of the function of each equipments
3.3.1 EME

EME (Externally Mounting Equipment) is the unit which has the following functions for connecting
Inmarsat-C system of JUE-87, and also has the major function as communication device.

EME function
・ RF front end
・ Modulation and demodulation
・ Circuit control and option setting
・ GPS receptor

EME is connected to IME with the coaxial cable, and the following signal is superimposed with IME.

・ Communication data
・ EME control data
・ Power supply(+24V)

3.3.2 IME

IME (Internally Mounted Equipment) has the following functions and fulfill the role in the interface with the
outside plays EME.

・ Control to EME and supply power (DC +24V)

・ Connected option (RDB/SB/External Buzzer) control
・ Communication ID control
・ User interface (GPS/Remote maintenance/LAN/USB)
・ Display
・ Printer control
・ Supply power to Printer (DC +24V)
・ Bridge Alert Management (BAM)

*1 Please note that there is a combination in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) module and I/F UNIT.
It is recommended to use the IME repair kit (NZZ-2464).

The model of the LCD module and I/F UNIT are as follows.

LCD module I/F UNIT

Old model
CCN-3227 CDJ-2464
(CCFL type)
New model
CCN-3227A CDJ-2464A
(LED type)

There is a combination in LCD module and I/F UNIT.

LCD module
CCN-3227A
NG *2 OK
(LED type)

*2 If the combination is “NG”, the connection cable between the LCD module and I/F UNIT does not have
compatibility and cannot be equipped.

The conventional repair unit (CCFL type) shown below cannot be replaced for IME that incorporate LED types,
but can be replaced for IME that incorporate CCFL types.

NAME LCD module I/F UNIT

MODEL CCN-3227 CDJ-2464
JRC CODE CCN-3227-1 CDJ-2464-1 or CDJ-2464CR

However, it is difficult to judge by looking at the appearance whether CCFL type or LED type is
equipped with JUE-87 on the ship, so we recommend shipping and using the IME repair kit
(NZZ-2464).
The conventional repair units (CCFL type) will be abolished as soon as they are out of stock.

Normal value : from 80(hex) to E0 (Hex)

Lower value shows that receiving signal is stronger and

receiver circuit performance is better.

Receiving C/N0 (VVVV) shows 10 times C/No dBHz. This

value depends on both received signal from satellite and
receiver circuit performances. Bigger C/No is better.
(ex. 0177 (Hex) means 37.5dBHz.)

Normal value : from 15E(Hex) to 1AE(Hex)

Normal C/No (dBHz) from 35.0dBHz (15E)to

-Failure produced by inevitability, such as misuse, negligence, or a natural disaster, a fire, etc.

In the case of passed over the term of a guarantee

When a function can be recovered by repair, any repair will be performed with charge by demand of a user.
Please inform us of the following items when ordering the repair:

+ Product name, model name, date of manufacture, and manufacture number

+ State of the abnormality (as in detail as possible)
+ Office name or organization name, address, and telephone number

Recommendation of overhaul
The performances of the set may deteriorate due to the aging of parts, and so on through the rate varies
depending on the conditions of use.
So, it is recommendable to contact the dealer from which you purchased the device, or one of our marketing
offices for overhaul apart from daily services. In this case, it becomes charged.

Disposal
When disposing JUE-87 process it in accordance with the rules of the pertinent local government.

Appendix A3. Inmarsat-C JUE-87 BAM Setup Procedure
1. PREFACE
Inmarsat-C JUE-87 shall support BAM (Bridge Alert Management) function in accordance with Res
MSC.431(98) from July 1, 2019 and IEC 62923-1:2018/IEC 62923-2:2018 from August 30, 2021.
This Appendix A3 describes the connection method and setting procedure by the serial port of JUE-87 and
MFD (Multi Function Display: JAN-9202 / 7202, JAN-9201 / 7201, JMR-92xx / 72xx series) with AMS (Alert
Management System) license.
Regarding JUE-87, it is recommended to connect the BAM function wiring to a serial port. Even if you use the
BAM function on the LAN port, also wire the serial port for backup.

A3-1
2. BAM function connection system diagram

This chapter explains the connection method of Inmarsat-C and JRC MFD.
Refer to Service manual text “3.1 Cable connection System Diagram” for details on I/O ports on the JUE-87
side.
JUE-87 connects to the IEC 61162-1 port of ALC (Alert LAN Converter: CMH-2370) is built into MFD.
An example of ALC connection is shown in Fig.2.1 and Table 2.1.

Fig.2.1 Connection example of JUE-87 and ALC (CMH-2370)

Table 2.1 Connection example of JUE-87 and ALC (CMH-2370) *1

Inmarsat-C JUE-87 ALC(CMH-2370)
Inmarsat-C output port OUTA (JB1 NQE-3222 terminal No.18) RX6A (J8103 terminal No.5)
ALC input port OUTB (JB1 NQE-3222 terminal No.19) RX6B (J8103 terminal No.6)
Inmarsat-C input port RDB (JB1 NQE-3222 terminal No.21) TX6A (J8103 terminal No.7)
ALC output port *2 RDA (JB1 NQE-3222 terminal No.20) TX6B (J8103 terminal No.8)

*1 The ALC has eight IEC 61162-1 serial ports (CH1 to CH8) from terminal block J8103 to J8106.
JUE-87 is connected to CH6 of ALC terminal block J8103 in the connection example.

*2 The JUE-87 input port corresponding to the ALC output port TX6A / TX6B is RDB / RDA.
Note that the terminal names “A” and “B” are connected in reverse.
