Perpetuum Mobile Sculpture

Back in the day, before the Laws of Thermodynamics were discovered, it was believed that you could create a machine that would run forever. These were known as Perpetual Motion machines. We know now that such a machine would not work because you cannot "create" energy from nowhere. Some of these machines were known as unbalanced wheels. This means that if you had a wheel which contained a series of weights that would fall as the wheel turned the wheel would continue to rotate. The patterns that these unbalanced wheels make are really fascinating, this sculpture is based on an unbalanced wheel. The central frame rotates around a rail which is attached to a wall. Wooden sliders are positioned at an angle, when the wheel rotates the sliders slide down. The pattern changes as the wheel is rotated, it also makes a rhythmic sound which changes with the speed of rotation. The frame is made from metal. The Sculpture needs to be securely attached to the wall. I can supple the fixings and instructions.
