Hemisus marmoratus - Mottled Shovel-snouted Frog, is a species of frog in the family Hemisotidae. It is widespread species thoughout southern Africa. It has a unique shovel-shaped snout that it uses to dig in soil and sand. It has a rounded body and short limbs. The frog is generally a light purple brown or grey brown with mottled markings covering its back and legs. Hemisus marmoratus - Mottled Shovel-snouted Frog is a burrowing frog, spending most of its time underground, and only emerges after heavy rainfall. Breeding takes place next to where temporary pools of water form.
