Internet Obsessed With Demanding Yorkshire Terrier's Obsession With Vacuum

Vacuuming can take a lot of time, and one owner's chore has grown a bit longer because her dog insists on getting cleaned as well.

In a hilarious TikTok video, Majk the Yorkshire terrier can be seen lying on his back and enjoying the vacuum suction his belly. So much so, he jumps straight up for round two when the owner attempts to clean the floor.

The footage shared by @funny_majk has racked up 1.6 million views since January 14.

Majk's enthusiasm about the vacuum is somewhat a rarity as usually dogs are fearful of the cleaning device. Newsweek reached out to a Kennel Club accredited dog trainer to find out why.

Joe Nutkins explained that some dogs may have a negative reaction because they aren't used to the item.

She told Newsweek: "Vacuums make a new sound which can worry noise sensitive dogs or confuse other dogs.

"When being used, the movements can cause natural instincts like herding (chasing and biting the vacuum), territorial (needing to control the space around them) or guarding (protecting their home / family)."

Of course, Majk's owner doesn't have anything to worry about because her furry friend can't get enough of the device. But some owners may need to help their dogs feel calm and comfortable around the cleaning device.

Nutkins, based in Essex and Suffolk, U.K., has provided the following tips:

  • Bring your hoover into the room and leave it for your dog to investigate without switching it on. Praise any interest in it or if previously worried, praise for ignoring it!
  • Add some play with toys, fun training like nose touches and twists and spins near the hoover without it being on to build a positive association.
  • Work on fun exercises and games with your dog with the hoover on but not moving and do short sessions of this—have your dog out of the room to hoover between these sessions.
  • Having someone play and interact with your dog when you start moving the hoover with it running can help them feel less fearful and see nothing bad is happening.
  • Ensure your dog has access to move away any time you move the hoover or use it—encourage your dog to move away if they end up in a corner rather then following them while hoovering.

So far, the comical clip has amassed over 114,000 likes and hundreds of comments—many indicating that their dog is the total opposite.

One user said: "I guess there is that one in a million dog that doesn't fear the vacuum."

"Legend has it they, still tryna vacuum the floor," joked another.

A third comment said: "My Yorkie runs a mile when he sees the vacuum."

Another wrote: "To avoid pet hair on the carpet—vacuum the dog!"
