🇩🇪 Durch Schweden während der Pandemie im Herbst/2020

Wir fahren also von den Lofoten aus kommend über Narvik nach Schweden. Den Meldungen aus der Heimat nach, müssten in Schweden die Opfer der Pandemie allgegenwärtig sein und der schwedische Sonderweg in eine Katastrphe ungeahnten Ausmaßes führen.
Da wir uns gerne ein eigenes Bild von derartigen Schlagzeilen machen und nicht jede Meldung ohne Hinterfragen hinnehmen, war uns eigentlich klar, dass der Grenzübertritt nichts Besonderes sein sollte. Und dennoch waren wir etwas in Aufregung als wir uns endlich der Grenze näherten… nichts, ein auf der Straße geparkter norwegischer Polizeibulli, dessen Besatzung weit und breit nicht zu sehen war, von schwedischen Grenzern ganz zu schweigen.

🇺🇸 Through Sweden during the pandemic in fall/2020

We drive from the Lofoten Islands via Narvik to Sweden. According to the reports from home, the victims of the pandemic should be everywhere in Sweden and the Swedish Sonderweg should lead to a catastrophe of unimagined proportions.
As we like to make up our own minds about such headlines and don’t accept every report without questioning it, we knew that crossing the border shouldn’t be anything special. And yet we were a little excited when we finally approached the border... nothing, a Norwegian police van parked on the road with no crew to be seen far and wide, not to mention Swedish border guards.

🇩🇪 Einmal quer mit dem Camper durch ganz Schweden. Angefangen mit dem wunderschönen Abisko Nationalpark ganz im Norden des Landes im Herbst in allen Farben, die man sich nur wünschen kann 🍂 Dort hatten wir einen der schönsten Momente, denn wir sahen die Nordlichter. Nicht nur einmal, sondern viele Nächte. Mit dem Van ging es kilometerweit durch Lappland bis runter nach Stockholm, wobei die wildernessroad wirklich ein Juwel an Natur war. Nach einem der tollsten Geburtstage in Schwedens Hauptstadt entdeckten wir Gotland, Öland und natürlich zu guter letzt auch den schönen Süden Schwedens.

🇺🇸 Once across the whole of Sweden with the camper. Starting with the beautiful Abisko National Park in the very north of the country in autumn in all the colors you could wish for 🍂 There we had one of the most beautiful moments, because we saw the northern lights. Not just once, but many nights. The van drove for miles through Lapland all the way down to Stockholm, and the wilderness road really was a jewel of nature. After one of the best birthdays in Sweden’s capital, we discovered Gotland, Öland and, of course, the beautiful south of Sweden.

🇩🇪 Hoch im Norden Schwedens, in den ländlichen Gegenden ist es nicht ungewöhnlich, Rentieren zu begegnen, besonders wenn man abseits der Hauptstraßen unterwegs ist. Sie sind ein integraler Bestandteil der samischen Kultur und werden häufig von den indigenen Samen gehalten. Das lokale Freilichtmuseum „Nutti Sámi Siida Márkanbáiki“ ermöglichte uns, diese majestätischen Tiere aus nächster Nähe zu beobachten 🦌🦌🦌

🇺🇸 Up in the north of Sweden, in the rural areas, it is not uncommon to encounter reindeer, especially when traveling off the main roads. They are an integral part of Sami culture and are often kept by the indigenous Sami people. The local open-air museum „Nutti Sámi Siida Márkanbáiki“ gave us the opportunity to observe these majestic animals up close 🦌🦌🦌🦌

🇩🇪 Stockholm ist nicht Schweden, oder irgendwie doch?

Nach gefühlter Ewigkeit durch karge Landschaften in Norwegen über endlose Birkenwälder im Norden Schwedens und vorbei an unzähligen lost places in Mittelschweden gefahren zu sein, kam die Ankunft in Stockholm einem Kulturschock gleich. Das ländliche Leben, welches den Großteil Schwedens bestimmt, haben so gar nichts mit dem modernen Leben in der Stadt gemein. Ein Novum in diesen Zeiten von Corona. Hier pulsiert wirklich das Leben. Bars, Restaurants, Kinos, Schwimmbäder, Spas, Museen, Tierparks – alles war zum Zeitpunkt unseres Besuchs im Herbst 2020 geöffnet. Kaum jemand trug Maske, in den Öffis hielt niemand Abstand. Natürlich gab es schon Auflagen, doch diese sind im Vergleich zum Rest Europas und der Welt zumindest aus unserer Sicht kaum der Rede wert gewesen. Wessen Strategie die bessere am Ende war … keine Ahnung. Wir sind jedenfalls nach der Durststrecke an Unterhaltung und Kultur, auch aus den letzten Monaten in Deutschland, ins laute und abwechslungsreiche Leben eingetaucht.

🇺🇸 Stockholm is not Sweden, or is it?

After what felt like an eternity of driving through barren landscapes in Norway, through endless birch forests in the north of Sweden and past countless lost places in central Sweden, arriving in Stockholm was tantamount to a culture shock. The rural life that characterizes most of Sweden has nothing in common with modern life in the city. A novelty in these times of Corona. Life really does pulsate here. Bars, restaurants, cinemas, swimming pools, spas, museums, zoos - everything was open at the time of our visit in the fall of 2020. Hardly anyone wore a mask and nobody kept their distance on the public transport. Of course, there have already been restrictions, but compared to the rest of Europe and the world, these have hardly been worth mentioning, at least from our point of view. Whose strategy was the better one in the end ... no idea. In any case, after the dry spell of entertainment and culture, also from the last few months in Germany, we immersed ourselves in the loud and varied life.

- Abisko and the Northern Lights -

🇩🇪 Die Nächte mit den stärksten Sonnenwinden im Herbst kündigten sich ganz unspektakulär als kaum von Wolken zu unterscheidenden Schleiern am Himmel an. Dort waberten Schwaden von hellgrünen Streifen zwischen der aufgerissenen Wolkendecke hindurch. Die Prognose sollte recht behalten. Aus den einzelnen schwachen Streifen wurde ein den Himmel überspannendes Geflecht an Schleiern, Streifen und Bögen, welche von Minute zu Minute an Helligkeit zunahmen. Der Anblick übertraf unsere Erwartungen.

Ein derart maßives Lichtband beleuchtete die gesamte Landschaft für eine kurze Zeit in einer Intensität wie man es nur von einer klaren Vollmondnacht erwartet hätte. Jubelschreie von eigens angereisten Touristen hallten über den See zu uns hinüber bis das Band in sich zusammen fiel und mit ihm die Nordlichter für diese Nacht erloschen. Ein schöneres Finale hätten wir uns für unseren Aufenthalt im Abisko Nationalpark nicht wünschen können.

🇺🇸 The nights with the strongest solar winds in autumn announced themselves quite unspectacularly as veils in the sky that could hardly be distinguished from clouds. Swathes of light green stripes wafted between the broken cloud cover. The forecast turned out to be right. The individual faint stripes became a network of veils, stripes and arcs spanning the sky, which increased in brightness from minute to minute. The sight exceeded our expectations.

For a short time, such a massive band of light illuminated the entire landscape with an intensity that you would only expect from a clear night with a full moon. Cries of joy from tourists who had traveled here for the occasion echoed across the lake to us until the band collapsed and with it the Northern Lights went out for the night. We couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful finale to our stay in Abisko National Park.
