The 35th Logistics Readiness Squadron's individual protective equipment element sprung into high gear Aug 17 at Building 1334 when the 35th Fighter Wing implemented a pre-deployment exercise.

The IPE element is responsible for the three mobility bags that are familiar to deploying Airmen across the Air Force.

"For exercise purposes we issued A-1 bags, B-1 bags and C-1bags," said Airman 1st Class Alexandria Shelly, 35th LRS IPE element administrator. "It's important to send Misawa's Airmen out to the field with the proper equipment, so they will be prepared for any situation they may come across."

The A-1 bag contains field gear to include a mess kit, sleeping bag, insect repellants and items needed on the battle field. The B-1 bag, which holds an Airmen's cold weather gear, includes winter boots, parka and mittens. The final bag Airmen need to deploy with is the C-1 bag or chemical protection bag. This bag includes a joint service lightweight integrated suit technology over garment, protective gloves, gas mask filter canisters, over boots and other chemical survival equipment.

"Approximately 300 bags will be issued during this week long exercise," said Staff Sgt. Jeffery Rose, 35th LRS IPE element NCO in charge.

Mission requirements and Air Force Manuel 23-110 Chapter 26 United States Air Force Supply Manual is where the IPE element receives guidance on how to determine what goes in the bags and how the bags are given to the deploying, Sergeant Rose added.

"These bags are meant to assist our Airmen in any environment from Antarctica to Iraq," said Airman Shelly
