What is the most reliable waterstop for concrete construction joints?

Waterstops are static seals installed between joints of (mostly) below grade concrete structures to prevent the passage of water or other fluids. The waterstop is embedded in the concrete or across and/or along the joint. In order to select the right waterstop for the application there are several things to consider. These include, the structure type, joint type, chemical containment requirements, and the method for securing the waterstop in position.

is a patented mineral coated steel plate waterstop which initiates / activates the self-healing of the concrete joint and concrete cracks!

How does the self-healing process work?

Concrete has an autogenous healing capacity as unhydrated cement is present in the CEMflex matrix or in the construction joint. When water comes in contacts with the unhydrated cement, further hydration occurs. Furthermore, dissolved CO2 reacts with Ca2+ to form CaCO3 crystals. These two mechanisms may actively heal and seal cracks. The BPA Engineers found the way to support this process on a very effective way by using the CEMflex Technology which is patented and has been tested many time at different Universities in Germany such as Braunschweig, Leipzig and Stuttgart. It has also been tested in external independent laboratories and they have confirm the high active sealing behavior of CEMflex. This patented process is 100% salt free!

This active sealing process gets initiated by the patented coating including unhydrated cement particles and dissolution subsequent carbonation of Ca(OH)2.

Other active sealing reactions are additionally taking place when the active reaction starts.

CEMflex is approved for direct contact with drinking according to DVGW Heft 347 and DVGW W 270. CEMflex is approved by the German Railway and has a life time expectancy of 100 years. CEMflex is tested and watertight up to 8 bar waterpressure which is equal to 80m water head. CEMflex is highly resistant against chemicals and is therefore approved for LAU by the German DIBt Berlin. Beside that CEMflex is also approved for JGS and Biogas which is a high aggressive liquid medium (animal manure, slurry, farmyard manure, silage and more). CEMflex fulfills the regulation of British Standard and is BBA-Approved according to BS 8102:2009 which is accepted by NHBC. CEMflex is approved by the ICC-ES for the Northern Americain Market and is mentioned in the building code. LEED, DGNB and Bream Certification are as normal as further ecolabels such as the Nordic Swan.
