We purchased Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. Keep reading for our full product review.

The Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack is more than just a waterproof backpack with wheels. It has some nifty bells and whistles, from a shockproof lalaptop pocket to an 18-inch aluminum telescoping handle.

To get an idea of whether the product is worth its price, we took it on a number of overnight trips. We evaluated its design and functionality to determine if it meets your travel needs.

Design: Functional with an ‘open concept’

Unlike many other rolling laptop bags we’ve tested, the Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack has the functionality of a rolling briefcase and the shape of a normal carry-on luggage piece—plus, it boasts padded shoulder straps as another way to haul it around. The bag’s nylon, water- and tear-resistant material is perfect for traveling in wet weather.

As a practical safety feature, Racini has included lockable zippers to ensure that your valuables are protected from snoops and thieves.

The shoulder straps are breathable and allow for comfortable carrying, and the flap that normally hides the straps can be folded under and secured into place with a patch of velcro. When you’re using the straps, another velcro patch allows you to attach the flap to the bottom of the bag so that it isn’t hanging down.

The shoulder straps are breathable and allow for comfortable carrying.

Inside the bag’s main compartment, you’ll find a sleeve designed for up to a 16-inch laptop. The sleeve is billed to be “shockproof,” i.e. able to resist damage when dropped or knocked, which can be crucial when traveling with your electronics.

There are multiple built-in pockets, including reasonable storage for a wallet, pens, a phone, and notepads. On each side of the bag, you’ll find mesh bottle holders—a nod to the classic backpack design—to help keep you hydrated through your travels.

Contributing to its overall prioritization of low-profile, low-fuss features, Racini has built in a telescoping handle that can be tucked and zipped into its own pocket. There is also a top handle that makes it easy to lift anywhere, and the four 360-wheels allow you to roll the bag on a hard surface any which way, though it doesn’t fare nearly as well on carpet.

Performance: Multifunctional and easy to use

The Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack was incredibly easy to use throughout our travels, and we attribute this to its simple yet thoughtful design. We loved that, unlike a normal backpack, the design allows you to pack items by laying the bag flat, as you would a normal carry-on piece.

Racini has included lockable zippers to ensure that your valuables are protected from snoops and thieves.

We also liked its flexible shape and how lightweight it is for its size. The fact that it offers so many carrying options (aluminum handle, top handle, and back straps) is also a big plus.

Price: Slightly overpriced, but worthwhile depending on your needs

For $89.00, you get a lot of bang for your buck, being that the Racini Rolling Backpack is so multifunctional. At first, we thought that it’s ostensibly simple, almost generic design warranted a smaller price tag (it seems easier to justify paying for a more sleek, professional design) but we like that this bag, despite having tons of useful features, is unsuspecting to snoops and thieves.

Competition: Racini Rolling Backpack vs. Perry Ellis Rolling Laptop Case

By all appearances, the Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack and the Perry Ellis 8-Wheel Spinner Rolling Laptop Case have some design differences. The Racini is very much a backpack with wheels, while the Perry Ellis looks more like a briefbag. But they are both rolling laptop bags, and both have a few of our favorite features including 360-degree wheels, lockable zippers, and a standard carry-on structure that opens flat rather than upright. They also retail for the same price: $89.99.

Aside from the most obvious difference—that the Racini can be carried like a backpack—the Racini’s design is far more casual and utilitarian than that of the Perry Ellis, which reads as more of a business bag or piece of luggage. The Perry Ellis also lacks the waterproof capabilities of the Racini.

The Perry Ellis Rolling Laptop Case can often be found on sale for around $60 or $70, which may tip the scales for some people who simply want a rolling bag with a laptop sleeve. The most important differences are the backpack straps and the level of water resistance.

Final Verdict

A bit pricey, but delivers a rare combination of comfort and utility.

The Racini Nylon Waterproof Rolling Backpack is built for commuters and travelers who are looking for compact luggage that combines organization, durability, and security. The price is slightly more than we’d like, but if you can see all of the benefits that this product offers, you may be inclined to overlook that.
