Who Makes the Stinger Car?

Currently, Kia Corp. makes the Stinger car. However, by midsummer 2023, the correct answer will be no one.

Manufacturing the Stinger since the first 2018 model rolled onto a showroom floor in 2017, Kia has given it the axe. The final model rolling off the line in Kia’s Autoland Gwangmyeong (formerly known as Sohari Plant) in South Korea is the sport sedan’s last gasp: a special Stinger Tribute Edition.

Limited to just 440 units for the United States, the Tribute Edition caps a 6-year run that put more than 65,000 Stinger fastback sedans on American streets. Based on the Stinger GT2, the Tribute Edition features one of two exterior paint schemes: Ascot Green or Steel Matte Gray. It also includes black accents, special 19-inch wheels, and a Terracotta Nappa leather-trimmed cockpit.

When originally released, the Stinger targeted a niche fastback segment, including European hotshots like the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Kia Corp. was founded in 1944. It is now part of the Hyundai Motor Co., which is the world’s fifth-largest vehicle manufacturer. Kia sold a total of 693,549 units in the U.S. in 2022, of which 7,809 were Stinger models. Some Kia dealers will have 2023 Stinger models available through this year. However, as a Kia spokesperson succinctly told us, “When they’re gone, they’re gone.”
