The prefect of the department of Mbour (west), Mor Talla Tine, proceeded, Friday, to the official installation of the municipal office of the Sandiara- Malicounda-Nguéniène intermunicipal agreement set up within the framework of the creation of an intermunicipal agropole.

An office of fifteen municipal councillors, five from each commune, was set up by consensus, with Dr Serigne Guèye Diop, Mayor of Sandiara, as president, and Maguette Sène as first vice-president and Maguèye Ndao as second vice-president, respectively mayors of Sandiara, Malicounda and Nguéniène.
This agropole in the west of Mbour department is the base, the very foundation of the intermunicipality which will give results, because it is based on a concrete economic, dairy, industrial and horticultural project.Dr. Serigne Guèye Diop, who revealed that the agropole will cost 54 billion CFA francs from the State of Senegal, with another fifty billion CFA francs expected from the private sector.
The resources of the agropole will also come from agricultural royalties. Each square meter will be developed and leased to agricultural professionals who will have to pay for water, electricity, in addition to agricultural fees," explained the local elected official.
With more than 100 billion CFA francs, this intercommunal agropole, which will generate 5000 jobs, is made up of 50 ha common agricultural domains. Three hundred young people from the three communes, or 100 per commune, will be there, at the same time cooperators, employees and shareholders.
There is also a 200-hectare breeding area that will concentrate all the breeders' associations of the inter-communal area. There will also be a 750-hectare agro-business zone which will produce eight million litres of milk and 3,000 dairy cows.
This agro-business zone will house an agro-industrial centre for services, product packaging, egg, meat and milk production, as well as a maté rental centre. This agro-business zone will house an agro-industrial centre for services, product packaging, egg, meat and milk production, as well as a centre for equipment rental, storage of fresh products, refrigeration and a large training centre for agricultural professions," Dr Diop said.
It is also planned to build 18 boreholes within the framework of this intermunicipal agropole and all the villages in the area will be equipped with electrical and hydraulic infrastructures.
We appeal to the other communes of the department to join the agropole in the coming years. We want to build a model to show that Act 3 of decentralization is an enlightened, visionary policy that can be developed," said Dr. Diop, according to whom, the benefits of this agropole will be "equitably distributed" among shareholders in the form of dividends.
A new local authority in the department of Mbour through this intermunicipal agreement between Sandiara, Malicounda and Nguéniène is a device provided for by the code of local authorities. Communes are joining forces to carry out a common project,'' said, for his part, the mayor of Malicounda, Maguette Sène.
Welcoming this initiative, the mayor of Nguéniène, Maguèye Ndao, said that he and his colleagues will work in "cohesion" to make it "an exemplary success".
