Disney Channel has renewed Elena of Avalor for a third season.
The series, which centers on a brave and adventurous teenager who rules as crown princess in a kingdom that was inspired by Latin cultures, is the No. 1 series for girls ages two to 11, and also ranks as No. 1 in its time slot among kids in the U.K., Spain and Portugal.
The news comes ahead of the show’s second-season premiere in the fall on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
The animated series, which premiered in July 2016, stars Aimee Carrero as the voice of Elena; other voice actors include Jenna Ortega, Chris Parnell, Yvette Nicole Brown, Carlos Alazraqui, Emiliano Díez, Julia Vera, Christian Lanz, Jillian Rose Reed, Joseph Haro, Jorge Diaz, Keith Ferguson and Joe Nunez.
The recurring guest voice cast includes Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rich Sommer, Justina Machado and Jaime Camil.
“With this new season order, the creative team, led by Craig Gerber and Silvia Olivas, has some exciting surprises in store for Elena on her journey to becoming queen,” said Nancy Kanter, executive vp content and creative strategy at Disney Channels Worldwide and general manager at Disney Junior Worldwide. “We’re looking forward to having our young viewers follow along on Elena’s adventure, while also continuing to build the Elena of Avalor experience for them beyond the screen.”
Elena of Avalor also inspired a line of dolls from Disney Store and Hasbro — more than 1 million dolls have been sold — with new toys set to debut at Toy Fair in New York this coming weekend. Other Elena-themed products include books, a soundtrack album and several DVD releases.
The show, produced by Disney Television Animation, also has received a National Hispanic Media Coalition Award and an Annie Award nomination.
