affixed to a 4¾x7 sheet with a newspaper clipping (2 surfaces). Eric Heiden
(b. 1958) is the only person ever to sweep all five speed skating events at a
Winter Olympics (Lake Placid, 1980), winning a gold in each! He also set
world speed records at four distances, including 3 successive records in the
1,000 meter. Heiden is the only speed skater on ESPN's list of the 50
greatest athletes of the 20th century, placing 20th overall. Heiden later
took up cycle racing, winning several pro races with the 7-Eleven Team
and competing in the Tour de France. Now an orthopedic surgeon, Heiden wrote
Faster, Better, Stronger on the science of exercise (2009).
