As one of the most prominent supermodels of the 1990s, Kate Moss helped redefine fashion, and her influence has only expanded since. Now she is bringing that same level of star power to the beauty industry, as one of Charlotte Tilbury’s muses, after years of working with the celebrity makeup artist on countless editorial shoots, red-carpet events, and more.
In 2022, the Charlotte Tilbury brand announced a three-year ambassadorship with the Prince’s Trust—now known as the King’s Trust—a nonprofit organization created by Britain’s King Charles III that assists young entrepreneurs and job seekers in need in 25 countries. The trust hosts an annual gathering ahead of each year’s Met Gala to celebrate its progress and impact, and the 2024 event took place Thursday night at Casa Cipriani in New York City. Along with fellow ambassadors and friends of the brand including Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Bella Tilbury, and Iris Law, Moss graced the event’s red carpet with founder Charlotte, wearing a cowl-neck silk gown and her signature ethereal glow.
In an exclusive look at the model’s getting-ready process, Moss and Tilbury talked to Bazaar and shared behind-the-scenes details of how they prepped for this year’s star-studded King’s Trust Gala, as well as some of their go-to glam favorites for the red carpet—which, of course, included plenty of Charlotte Tilbury essentials.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s gala?
Kate Moss: I look forward to this event with Charlotte every year; this was our third time. The King’s Trust is a great organization that helps change the lives of young people across the world, and Charlotte is a big supporter of mentoring and supporting their young people. It’s wonderful to be able to celebrate their success and to support all they do. Plus, it’s always fun to collaborate with Charlotte on a red-carpet look!
How would you describe your glam for the gala?
KM: For tonight’s look, we wanted to go for a classic, rock-chick smoky eye using Charlotte’s Super Nudes eye palette paired with my signature Iconic Nude lip.
Why is your partnership with the King’s Trust so important to you?
Charlotte Tilbury: Over 10 years ago, I made my dreams a reality when I launched my brand, Charlotte Tilbury Beauty. It was the start of an incredible journey that has allowed me to fulfill my purpose of unlocking confidence in everyone, everywhere. I believe that enterprise can create opportunity, and that is why I am so passionate about supporting the King’s Trust, and the life-changing efforts of its enterprise program—which works tirelessly to support the next generation of entrepreneurs. That’s why I am so grateful and honored to be here tonight, as the King’s Trust Ambassador for Enterprise. Together we are working to encourage, empower, and enable young entrepreneurs everywhere to unlock the magic of confidence within themselves and help make their dreams come true.
Like the King’s Trust, I have always believed that if you feel confident, you can reach your full potential, embrace opportunity, and live your life limitlessly. Describe your long-standing friendship with Kate. How do you feel when she is in your makeup chair?
CT: I’ve known Kate since the very beginning of my career—we met for the first time both aged 19, on a Dazed shoot in the ’90s, and have been friends ever since! Kate supported me from the start of my journey from makeup artist to beauty entrepreneur and is always one of the first to try my products before they launch. She is my ultimate beauty muse, and I have created so many iconic beauty looks and trends with her. She has inspired so many of my products, I even named some after her! Kate is the ultimate beauty chameleon. She has the most incredible features, whether it’s a classic rock-chick look with the Iconic Nude Kate lip that I created for her, or the perfect sultry smoky eye or a glamorous bombshell red lip. She has a chameleon’s ability to morph into character!
