Kristen Bell has perfect hair. Seriously, it's so perfect that I wish I could take a nap in it right now. I want to spend my next vacation rolling around in her hair. Is that weird? You're calling the police?
But The Good Place actress' locks weren't always amazing. Nope, before Bell found her glam squad, she was like all of us: sporting bad haircuts in awkward school pictures. Most of us have buried those photos in the darkest corners of our basements, but Bell—the brave soul she is—unearthed a particularly iconic childhood picture on James Corden's Late Late Show Wednesday night (September 21). And her hair was, well, something.
In the photo, Bell has a literal mullet, courtesy of her mother. (And Lizzie McGuire thought her mom was the pits for making her wear that unicorn sweater on picture day!) The reason? Bell played on an all-boys baseball team growing up, so her mama gave her a "disastrous" 'do as a bullying preventive measure.
"My mother made sure that I would not take any flack from anybody because she gave me a real sort of disastrous kind of haircut," Bell said. "What she did to make sure I fit in with the boys was took the bangs past the ear, past the forehead, past the ear all the way down to the back, which I believe we now call a mullet. I never had any problems because everyone thought I was one of the little boys."
