Street Style: New York Fashion Week Fall 2009
Fashion Week has taken over Manhattan: Well-dressed style insiders are hitting the streets—and the Bryant Park tents, where the shows are held—in droves! Here are some of our favorite off-runway outfits that we've seen so far, along with a cheat sheet on how to steal their cool winter looks.
1/12Mixing bold colors is a definite DO.
The trick to color mixing is to keep everything else simple. Basic dark jeans, a black bag and black heels are the perfect foundation for this Fashion Week-goer's vibrant top and jacket.
2/12Make summery heels work year-round by pairing them with dark (warm) tights.
No need to wait until June to break out your fave sandals. Just slip on a pair of dark tights over strappy, bootie-looking sandals and you're ready to roll.

If you can't part with your fave black winter coat, try updating it with a jolt of color, like this scarlet scarf. The beret adds a romantic French twist.

A bright top, like this turquoise blouse, quickly transforms a basic black suit into an unboring work outfit.

Another great black coat option? A sculptural cut that seems dressy no matter what you're wearing. Bonus: Styles like this that end at the knee look good with flats, heels and boots. Let's just call it the LBC—little black coat.

The infinity scarf—basically a knit scarf in the shape of a giant O—has been the cold-weather accessory of choice for more than one trendy girl. (At the Erin Fetherston show, 90210 star Shenae Grimes said she swears by hers!) To draw attention to your gorgeous face—and killer shades—wrap the scarf tightly around your neck.

Not everyone can pull off super-hip retro frames, but the cool clutch, wrap-waist trench and leg-lengthifying light-color heels are as easy to wear as they are classic.
9/12Your new go-to accessory? Gloves.
Crisp trousers and polished gloves take a biker babe-worthy leather jacket into seriously chic territory.
10/12How to wear sequins during the day.
This Fashion Week guest balances the party-girl staple with low-key pieces like a neutral-color coat and basic brown boots.
11/12DO mix acid brights and black
This woman is ahead of the fashion curve in her hot-pink coat. (She looks like she walked off the Marc Jacobs runway!) An acid-bright coat like hers makes suffering through winter's last gasps a little easier.
