Le Male Essence de Parfum Jean Paul Gaultier for men

It seems that there are two different fragrances being heavily conflated here. There is a LM Essence de Parfum which is BLUE and there is a LM Essence de Parfum Intense which is RED. I haven't personally smelled either of them, but I think it's important that people know they aren't the same thing. Some people have theorized that the juice turned color as it aged, but it's two different fragrances and there is only a page on here for the BLUE version, not the RED Intense version. Do some research, y'all.

Slightly spicy vanilla mixed with leather and a lavander in the background, different from everything in the market, it's a shame they discontinued it. I have the first 2016 formulation and it projects really well, not extremely long lasting tho. There is a small resemblance to CH Men Prive but not that much, Le Male Essence has s lot more vanilla and is a juvenile forward fragrance overall. Bring it back!

Was so curious to try this so I bought a used bottle and the opening isn’t for everyone , little strong on cardamom and spices but after like 15 minutes it starts to change into this beautiful sweet lavender , spicy reminiscent of ysl la Nuit old school vibes to me .

I, at first, blind bought this fragrance due to its bottle and cheap price of like about 79 SGD. I was extremely worried at first but this fragrance was really unique with its leathery, sage and cardamom smell especially now as people look for the recent JPGs like le male elixir. Despite being different from the other JPGs, I find that it still has JPG dna which also is one of my favourite designers, which lead up to being my signature scent. Amazing 10/10

El cuero se percibe en toda lea vida se la fragancia, es un cuero suave y aterciopelado, muy cálido y "apapachón", encendido por el cardamomo y la pimienta, pero suavizado por la vainilla y el haba tonka. Una verdadera delicia!

I got very lucky that I found a legit bottle of these for 100$ (It was used but mostly full) It’s probably my favorite fragrance in the Jean Paul line.

I got this a a flee market of 70$. this is a crazy good leather and vanilla fragrance but is discontinued😢. definitely using this wisely.

Easily the best of the Le Male lineup. Pity they discontinued this one. Excellent cardamom note with just enough leather. A pleasant, commercial leather note too, not the cloying nausea of Guilty Absolute for instance. Haven't smelled anything else like this in my time collecting, and I'm bummed this has become near impossible to find at a decent price.

The best le male ever created...bring it back!

Spicy, lightly green cardamom accord leads to a beautifully creamy and powdery vanilla leather. There's a very distinct booziness to the fragrance, but it's not overwhelmingly so.
Perfect for autumn & winter, a little over arms' length sillage, creates a nice little cocoon.
I'd say this can be unisex for a woman who favors these types of scents.

Smells nothing like Le Male. Branded under the line since JPG sucks at marketing. Excellent scent and one of the best JPG’s for men. Very similar to CH Men Prive except subtract the boozy note and add more prominent lavender and cardamom notes. 8/10 and relatively easy to find for a discontinued fragrance.

Hated original Le Male from the beginning. Got this juice from a friend, who wanted to "gift me something special from his collection, that he would regret giving away." Honestly, I feel bad for him, because I know why he regrets giving this gem away. I am absolutely in love with this version of Le Male, which barely reminds me of the original fragrance. It is a masterpiece, too bad it is discontinued. I assume, it is because it was too pricey to produce it, because of ingredients, and people still paralleled it with original Le Male. If you come across this scent on ebay, go ahead and buy it, even if costs 500$

its Nice Smooth Leather Cinnamon Woody Fragrance and Long Lasting is good Plus 8 Hours

this smells very strong like leather, it is mostly what you will smell the entire day, a tad synthetic though. not bad, but not something that would blow your mind.

I found a a 125ml bottle at a duty free in Raleigh, NC and I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve been curious about this fragrance for some time but I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere as it had been discontinued. I don’t know where this shop procured a bottle of this discontinued juice but I’m glad they had it because it’s absolutely wonderful. Sweet but not excessively sweet, smooth vanilla balanced beautifully by a spicy cardamom and pepper note and framed by a subtle animalic leather. Heavenly. The best of the Le Male line in my opinion! It lasted for about 8 hours but stayed fairly close to the skin. Performance is very similar to what you get from D&G The One EDP making this an excellent choice for date night. Shame they discontinued this cause this is the STAR of the Le Male line up! Im going to cherish this bottle.

ITTY BITTY COMMITTY

I bought a tiny .03oz baby miniature bottle from an online discounter and thought the color of the liquid looked cool and because the bottle looked like the Le Beau bottle. I wore it over 2022 Thanksgiving weekend and got more compliments on my fragrance than the Turkey got over dinner!

I guess this is discontinued now but was fun to wear. The dry down was very seductive and made me smell like A MAN MAURY!!! All joking aside, even if I received the newer formulation in this tiny bottle, it was absolutely wonderful.

My Favourite of the JPG line, shame it has been discontinued. I found the drydown to be a boozy cherrywood scent which is unlike any I've ever encountered.

A beautiful lavender and leather with a touch of cardamon. Not a fan of lavender and associating it with room fresheners (olfactive memory you know...); I have to say that my nose finds it very pleasant. This is a rare occurrence. This is clearly an underrated perfume from JPG, and I discovered it by chance because they were selling the last can in a JPG stand in a perfume shop. I wonder if they discontinued it because I never noticed the bottle before and never saw it anywhere else anymore in my country (central Europe). Nice surprise. It has personality for sure but has a steamy, mysterious side. I find it perfect for grey, rainy and/or nighttime weather. It can even be a date night one, it is reassuring.
PS: a review based on a bottle with a silver cap and dark purple juice.

I have been collecting for a few years now and I have come accross this fragrance 2 or 3 times and sort of ignored it even though many people said it was good. It's funny how then all of a sudden it hits you how amazingly good a fragrance is. Maybe my nose has matured. I was lucky enough to come accross a bottle of this for $60 in the discontinued sale rack. I have CH Men Prive and there are some slight differences but I think Essence is so much better. It has that rich sweet gourmand base layered with the leather and lavender which are both prominent, topped of with the sexy cardamon and pepper. Dam life is good. I am very grateful. Ha ha.

Just so so good. Apparently hard to find a decent priced full bottle which is sad. I’ve only smelled the edt and a few flankers of le male but this one takes the cake. Amazing spicy boozy leathery masculine classy offering. Just the best. However somewhat limiting in that it’s a date night fragrance. But also somewhat versatile in that you could wear it around the house for a cozy evening or dinner with the wife or possibly going out to a cozy restaurant for a late night steak or something with wine. Very intimate scent. Spicy, cinnamony, and boozy with the JPG le male DNA

This is criminally underrated for some reason. No one talks about it. Wear le male edt during the day and this at night or for classy events. It’s a little too classy for an every night runner. It’s like that special bottle of alcohol that you bust out on rare very special occasions. This is a hidden gem for sure. Not a young guy’s scent at all. Over 35 crowd and established gentlemen type deal. You will smell cozy and successful. They might not admit it but this will drive women wild. Very attractive on a mature man

Anyway great stuff but unfortunately it’s rare unless you want to roll the dice on eBay

1. Owner of an absurd fixation and projection, I consider this a very preponderant factor in the effect of his predecessor being considered a Lavender bomb for ballads and "hunting" occasions in the male world!

2. Spicy and lightly spiced output, greenish and fresh at the same time, which creates a dirty oriental aroma on the skin that warms up as time progresses. A slightly citric touch is perceived, but nothing goes away, luckily, that muffled aroma of the East with attempts at refreshment is more interesting.

3. I think the Lavender note in it is beautiful, married to wild leather, raw and masculine, but without ceasing to be contemporary! The Cinnamon here is made of wood, really wood and exudes a kind of fruity aroma, close to a dry Vanilla and finally spicy, spicy, uncomfortable (but not at all weird)! Here the refreshing note is still quite evident and the fragrance projects like never before!

4. At the base it becomes seductive, with a lot of musk, assuming a kind of androgynous position, but nothing alarming with warm and resinous notes, against the backdrop of sealed leather that refers to a car seat and another refreshing touch of wood and raw sap; there is a sweetness here that does not find its place and behaves in a hyperactive way, going from end to end, sometimes annoying, sometimes being fleeting and admirable!

A great fragrance, it does not list any boozy notes, but the fragrance has a leather boozy feel. This fragrance smells like it should be rocked in a black t-shirt and leather jacket.

Seasons I would wear Autumn and winter. In the UK, on a really cool Spring day or night I would wear this less sprays.

The liquid is always blue… it turns amberish/purple because it goes bad very easily. I had my bottle stored with AC all day for over a year and today I opened it, to my surprise the liquid that was blue turned amber kind of purple. The fragrance also changed, the opening is not as smooth, it smells like the typical “you’ve had this for too long opening” and it’s now more spicy but less sweet, it’s also longer lasting.

This is a review of a 2016 batch of the purple juice. Wow, what a beautiful fragrance. The opening on my skin is rather harsh and slightly animalic with the spices and leather screaming right away for about 10 minutes. The dry down is where it's at for me. A gorgeous vanilla with just the right amount of leather and spice. Leans quite masculine, but the dry down could possibly work for the right woman. What a shame this has been discontinued.

A great brown leather fragrance!

Doesn't stray into the overly musky or animalistic brown leather-type scents like a lot of other leather-focused fragrances.

The coumarin and vanilla bring sweetness to offset against the leather, and with a slight light freshness added by the bergamot and lavender, it makes a very wearable blend overall!

This definitely has a similarity to CH Men Prive but I'd say this is distinct in that Essence is a 'brown leather' fragrance as opposed to the 'black leather jacket/bad boy' vibe CH Men Prive has. Essence comes across as more mature and suits someone a bit older, it doesn't have the playfulness of CH Men Prive.

I'm a woman and in my opinion this is a true unisex fragrance. I adore this on my guy and I love to spray it on myself too. The lavender here is not barbershop, it's juicy! I love a good barbershop lavender too,don't get me wrong but since my grandad used Yardley lavender I associate it with "alpha males".
For reference I can't stand libre, and am very indifferent to the lavender in guerlains Mon.
Without rabling on, get it if you're a gourmand lover and like to try a gourmand lavender and can obtain for an ok price. It's stunning and a good performer as well!

@Robusto I bought a bottle of this around mid 2020 and it was blue with silver sprayer. however, a year past, I tried to reach for this scent, and I noticed that the perfume juice became purple-burgundy-like.

LeMale with a hint of Ultra Male sweetness backed with leather/cinnamon/cardamom. Very dense and sexy! As it dries down, it's a little more creamier.

I'm 44 and my wife is 45.....she likes sweeter fragrances.....me, not so much. Ultra Male is a little too sweet for me and even for my wife. Essence on the other hand drives her crazy....in a good way! If you're looking for complements, this one is a safe bet.

Longevity....6-8 hours....perhaps a whole work day on clothes. Projection can be at least an arms length for 1-2 hours so don't overspray. You could wear this to the office if you're daring enough but definitely not a summer/warm weather fragrance.

Oh....apparently this is now released as a blue juice? I only have the purple and my thoughts above are for the purple. Not sure if there's really a difference or if it's been reformulated?

Well I just got a 75ml of this for 55€ and I find the breakdown notes to be true to the actual scent, esp. Cardamom and Leather, but I also get a noticeable saffron note. Getting 6hs with moderate sillage on skin + 4hs more as a skin scent in 20-25c. This is a sexy, date time leather sweet scent, going head to head with Armani's Stronger with You and D&G The One and honestly it's a photo-finish. I prefer this to the aforementioned for better performance and less juvenile and sweet scent profile.

Why do people smell Dior Sauvage in almost everything? I see this comparison no matter the notes lol.

I picked up a 2020 bottle (blue/purple) juice, I love this fragrance it suits everything, I am a Le male lover I have 4 bottles (Fleur Du male, this, Le male Le Parfum and ultra male) Le male Le Parfum is easily my favorite but this is worthy of a signature scent, peppery opening feels like a Dior Sauvage I might actually like then leathery heart very sultry and masculine I get compliments with this easily, then we get to the relaxed woodsy vanilla base, very very unique scent 2 out of 10 people have it. Superb fragrance for longevity I get about 9-10 hours easily on a hot day 🤙🏾

I've been rocking this one recently, and I love the leather addition to this fragrance.
Slightly bright and peppery in the opening but the mid-notes protrude off the bat amongst the opening notes. little bit of cardamom with Cinnamon+Lavender+Leather along the vanilla woody base, are the notes I pick up mostly.
Beautifully sweet and sultry. One of my favorites from the line.

JPG runs one of the most underrated fragrance lines with continuous dominant fragrances in my collection.
Le Male Essence De parfum has a sexy tone to this scent, the cinnamon and leather create such a sweetness mixed perfectly to make it even sexier. The base notes almost come off as a cherry scent which make it EVEN MORE sexy.
Don't sleep on this one, a must-have!

OMG people. I blind bought this for my ex many years ago. This is the most intoxicating opulent fragrance PERIOD. SEX SEX SEX. This smells dirty, naughty, expensive, rich and like panties are going to fall. It suited my ex's skin so well, I thought this one was made for him. It lasts for days even on the skin, leaves a huge trail. Heavy, deffinately for winter or night.
Girls were literally stopping us on the street when we were tigether to askwhat fragrance is he wearing. I dont know a single flanker but this one - its phenomenal.
It has a not that reminds of the JPG Classique, which is a fvourite of mine when it comes to sexy female fragrance nad it ties them to the same smell kinda.

I recently got a 2016 bottle from an auction and this scent was a very nice surprise. It is by far the most "odd" Le Male and is far away from the OG. For me that is a plus because the OG is not one of my favorite scents.
Essence is a interesting take on the leather note and I also get a cherry-vibe from it as mentioned in one of the reviews below. The silage is moderate, this is a scent for yourself and people that come in close but it has a pretty good longevity I would say. I get around 6-8 hours from it. To bad it is discontinued but if you can find it at a reasonable price on an auction it is worth buying, I paid around 60 USD/55 EUR for an almost full 75ml bottle.

لو مال اسنس دو پاغفوم از معدود فلنکرهای لو ماله که واقعا سرش به تنش می‌ارزه. اسنس رو در عین ارتباط با لو مال تا حد زیادی می‌شه به عنوان یه عطر مجزا و مستقل در نظر گرفت. شیشه این عطر به نسبت شیشه‌های قبلی تنومندتر و عضلانی‌تر شده، به همین نسبت رایحه هم مردانه‌تر و موقرتر شده. شروع عطر کمی شلوغ و خشنه و نوید عطر پر سر و صدایی رو بهتون می‌ده، اما این شروع دوام چندانی نداره و به سرعت، رایحه از هر لحاظ هم ساختار رایحه و هم پرفورمنس به سمت ملایم شدن پیش می‌ره. شروعی مرکباتی، گرم و فلفلی و تند که وجه سیتروسیش به سرعت فروکش می‌کنه و کلیت فضا گرم و شیرین می‌شه (شرینیش مثل نسخه اصلی دلتون رو نمی‌زنه و کاملا به‌جا و به‌اندازه‌ست). با همون سرعت سرو کله چرمی دوست داشتنی و سربه‌زیر با ته‌بوی انیمالیک و تا حدی دودی پیدا می‌شه. چرم این عطر نه چرم بی‌ادب و زمخت و هارشیه و نه چرم لوکسیه. تو مین‌استریم‌ها بخوام بگم نه مثل گوچی گیلتی آبسولوت هنرمندانه و نسبتا نیش پسنده و نه مثل لاین دیور اوم لوکس و شیک، یه جورایی بین این دو تا حسابش کنین یعنی اگر گوچی چرم خام و تازه ست و دیور اوم‌ها چرم لوکس، لو مال اسنس فضایی مثل کارای جیر دست‌دوز براتون تداعی می‌کنه و وجه انیمالیک صمیمی، ساده، دوست داشتنی و بی‌آزاری داره.
نت‌های نسخه‌ی اصلی که تو اکثر فلنکرهای لو مال هم حضور داشتن اسطوخودوس و تونکا و وانیله. تو این نسخه اسطوخودوس اون رایحه بنفش و تمیزش رو از دست داده و حالتی خاکستری و نیمه فلزی به خودش گرفته و در کنارش رایحه‌ای سرو مانند و گیاهی داریم. چه در عطر مادر و چه بعضی از فلنکرها با وانیل و تونکایی قلدر طرف بودیم که تو این نسخه اون وانیل با بقیه نت‌ها نشسته دور میز مذاکره و در عین قلدری به بقیه هم اجازه ابراز وجود می‌ده. وجه چوبی و گیاهی این عطر هم به جذابیت رایحه‌ش اضافه می‌کنه و در عین اینکه این نسخه موقر تر از بقیه ست احساس صمیمیت و خون‌گرمی بیشتری رو بهتون می‌ده.
در مورد پرفورمنس عطر، موندگاری قابل قبولی داره اما برخلاف نمراتی که بهش دادن پخش چندان قوی‌ای نداره، و تو محدوده خصوصیتون بیشتر به چشم میاد. برای همین عطر خیلی خوبیه برای قرارهای دو نفره و کم‌جمعیت. در عین رسمی بودن برای مهمونی‌ها و جمع‌هایی که دنبال خودنمایی هستین چندان به کارتون نمیاد در ضمن من بچ کد ۶۱۳۷۱ رو تست داشتم که جزو تولیدات اول این عطر بوده.
از سن بالای ۲۵ سال با استایل مناسب عطر می‌تونین از پوشیدنش لذت ببرین و با لباس رسمی و نیمه رسمی به راحتی ست می‌شه و با استایل کژوال یا متفاوت چندان رو تن درست نمی‌شینه.
در نهایت قبل از اینکه این عطر نایاب یا گرون بشه پیشنهاد می‌کنم حداقل تستش کنید.

Much ado about nothing. Apart from being in a torso, this has no body. It becomes a skin scent as soon as it exits the spray head. What a waste of money! Bottles cool. But I paid £45 for a dummy. Guess I'm the only dummy here!

I would love this with more longevity. They should release a ”by night” with same exact scent but more strength. Would pay top dollars.

I actually picked up a 7ml sample in a recent online order.. Bit pricy for what you get, but it’s a decent sample size and this is getting harder to find.

Wished I would have grabbed a lone bottle I saw at a Lord & Taylor store closing last year. It wasn’t discounted much… But was reduced in cost. I figured it would go lower and lower as the closing got nearer.. From what I could tell it had been there for a few years and didn’t think anyone would buy it… I was wrong.

Anyway… Might even grab another 7ml sample just for shits and gigs..

It is a lighter, less animalic, more wearable version of CH Men Prive.
The main notes are Spicy Herbal Cardamon Leather.
The Sillage is not huge, and it becomes a skin scent after two hours.
The bottle design is one of the more unique ones for le male, so it is worth collecting.

Opens with a spicy leather and dries down to powdery lavender vanilla. The powder reminds me of Le Male, but to be honest this doesn't come across as a very masculine scent to me - more unisex or even leaning feminine? I had to double-check the packaging because I have the gold cap/burgundy juice, and even that seems fairly girly compared to the other Le Male flanker presentations. I personally don't love the blend going on here (not a huge fan of the OG either), but I can see why it might appeal to some people.

Anyways this scent isn't for me, but during the week I wore it I noticed decent performance. The leather note is softened by the powder and light floral elements, but it's just kind of an odd mix which comes across weirdly dissonant and unisex to my nose. Would not recommend as a blind buy.

…it’s a personal thing but the cardamom and cinnamon are too Armani pour homme and Milano Cento him and the sweet leather finish doesn’t save it…silver/blue juice…yes it’s a beautiful bottle…Fleur du, Ultra and le Parfum still the holy trinity…

Not this perfume, I love this perfume, but the fact I haven't written a Fragrantica review for it!!! I mean WTF is going on? Are my reviews disappearing or am I getting old an forgetting to post them?
Anyway.... If you don't like the original Le Male, have no fear because this is nothing like it, but nods enough in it's direction to make you go 'ahhhh I see the thread.'
A bigger more obvious nod though would be to the perfumers previous works of sparkly, cosmic, nebulae, fruity incense accords like Ganymede and Teddy, Bois Imperiale etc....etc.... but essence parfum seems to be squarely in the 'designer' realm, reining that sparkliness in somewhat and rounding off the edges with smooth, warm, spiced, lavender fougere type feel.
Which as much as I love Bisch's signature style, I find it hard to wear those Barrois perfumes and such after a few hours because they are just too much, not in a bad way, they are brilliant just sort of.... emotionally draining.
This however is spectacularly good, soft, wearable and was a huge suprise to me upon it's release, I mean I bought it immediately, I thought it was that good and just look at that reworked Flacon.
Bravo to JPG for giving us something really meaningful in a sea of drab men's designer releases.

I acquired burgundy juice with gold cap (if it really makes a difference🤷♂️).

This goes on spicy leather and dries down to a creamy leather. The cardamom here is spicey…I do not get sweetness from this fragrance. Only when it dries down does that spiciness give way to a subtle vanilla note that smooths out the leather. This DNA is completely centered around leather…this has almost nothing to do with the OG. Only once in awhile will I catch it in the air and think Le Male.

In the air, the dominant leather note is very pleasant…when I smell it directly off my hand the leather is pretty heavy. If I only smelled this off a tester strip…it would have been a hard pass for me. On skin, this is a very smooth mature masculine DNA…this is a mature man’s date fragrance.

Longevity for me is 8+ hours…projection is average, but it really is a personal space DNA…people have to get closer to you to really enjoy it. This type of projection is best for me…as most of the time I am among customers and business partners, so I don’t want anything screaming off of me.

Overall, I’m super happy I found this on Fragrancenet. This will certainly compliment my other Le Males.

Pungent leathersmell. I kinda like it.

At first I thought about like textile+rubber floor or something, kinda smell like a builders warehouse with some harsh chemical smell.

2018 golden cap blue liquid version that also kinda looks burgundy from some angles.
This is a less sweet, more leathery version of CH Men Prive, less boozy and a bit more powdery. Much more lasting power than Prive too. The leather on it also has a strong iris/incense note to it that reminds me of Dior Homme Parfum in some ways. It also reminds me of Fahrenheit Absolute in some other ways.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchase and would be inclined to get a backup bottle sometime in the future. Honestly a great flanker. Can be worn in summer if you do just 2 sprays, it won't overwhelm you in any way.
Can't wait to wear this to the pub and drink Guinness with a shot of JW Double Black.

Find the boozie Artemis a bit harsh in the opening, coupled with a bit of cheap smelling leather and then that's about it; it disappears after that like poof.

It doesn't belong to the Le Male line and has absolutely no similarity with Le Male Parfum that many have voted to be similar. I am wearing both on each arm today.

There are many other better fragrances in this genre; CH Prive is better; I would put Bentley Intense Man (which gives me a headache) in the same realm, too. Next.

Update Nov 2022: I think it's my fav from the Le Male line for fall. Also, CH Man Prive is like a synthetic acetone and this is a warm fluffy cardigan hug. It's safe yet bold. Intimate yet loud.

This is my fav. But my bottle is brown and not blue on all of pictures, don´t know why? But it´s warm and comfy. Perfect for a date or dinner.

I only hunted this fragrance down because of the formulation change, I managed to locate 3 bottles from 2016. Boy I wasn't let down with this one. This is beautiful and sexy. Bonus is my wife loves this.

I blind bough this fragrance based on the notes, a bunch of reviews, and mainly because I loved the bottle! (Stupid, I know). I received the older version (Burgundy juice with gold atomizer).

I wish I had tested this before I bought it, because it's just not my thing. It does not feel well-blended, rather a synthetic mess on my skin. What I get is a weird amalgamation of Cardamom and leather, with lavender playing in the background. There is a bit of sweetness that comes from the Vanilla and Tonka, but smells extremely synthetic. There are no boozy notes to this fragrance, but I get a lot of cheap whiskey vibes from this - harsh, not well-blended and unnatural.
The only saving grace for me is that it does not project too much, and becomes a skin scent within an hour or so. This would be the first fragrance that I'd shift out when I get a chance.

This is absolutely stunning!
I find it to be one of the better offerings from the JPG line. To me it’s very comforting when I wear this. It even puts me in a calm & cheerful mood. I would say it is definitely mature in smell, 25+. Projection & longevity are excellent.
This for me warrants a back-up bottle!

I really enjoyed this fragrance and It’s one of my favs. It’s a sweet spicy fragrance. Reminds me of V pour homme by Valentino( a masterpiece that is discontinued).

Cardamom, Tonka, suede, vanilla and touch of eucalyptus. Very nice shame its discontinued, i think? very hard to find havent seen this much since 2018 except fragranceX and ebay. Saw a bottle today in a store might pick it up in 2 weeks if its still there.

So I ended up picking it up and got a true vintage on accident 🤣 Red wine coloured juice! Beautiful. Made in August 2016.

I ordered online and received a 2018 batch (gold cap).

I love this fragrance.There are definitely Le Male vibes in this with the Cardemom, Lavender and Vanilla, but I prefer this flanker. Essence de Parfum is less sweet, more aromatic, and adds a soft Leather note which I smell throughout. This makes the fragrance more mature and more modern than the original Le Male.

I test longevity on a cloth handkerchief which I keep in another room so I am not constantly exposed to it and don't go noseblind. Le Male Essence de Parfum lasts 10+ hours, but does not project a lot. It is office save and very good for more intimate dates.
This is perfect for Spring because after the sweet winter fragrances I enjoy wearing Aromatic, Fresh & "Outdoor-sy" fragrances like this.

I get the similarities with CH men prive. But if you smell side by side, they are totally different. JPG le male essence de parfum is more smooth and refine. While I found CH men prive more boozy, youthful and brighter.

I’m surprised that no one mention the similarity with Atkinson Oud save the king.

I get a lot of artemisia in this in the opening. Dries down into a nice vanilla/tonka heavy base.

It's ok, better for cooler weather, but im not a huge fan of it. Smells a little too generic for me, bleh.

anyone else who feels this is very similar to Mon Guerlain for ladies with the vanilla and lavender? i bought this blind for my bf coz loved the bottle but ended up weating it myself coz this is def Guerlain for women! on my bf this smells too sweet - not sexy on straight men. sorry. but every girl can pull this off ❤👌

Wow this is good. I shy away from heavy winter scents, and I think relying on the leather vs an amber type scent keeps this light and airy enough for me while still being slightly dense and potent.

Very nice boozy leather with a good dose of vanilla and cardamom. My wife loves this on me. I don’t have much experience with leather frags but I have fan di fendi, and this is more traditional manly and winter/fall whereas fendi is more unique and herbal, more suited to fall/spring.

The opening is very obviously leather, like if you mixed the classic Le Male with Ombré Leather.... 1hr into the drydown the leather fades away and you're left with vanilla+coumarin (tonka). The cardamom is rather harsh in this one, don't really like it. Too bad cause the opening is quite nice. If you like Le Male, then next time buy this one instead. If you're not a fan of Le Male, then skip it

CK One Shock, anyone?

Le Male Essence EDP by Jean Paul Gautier (Antonio Puig version)

The opening is pepper and cardamon, which very quickly transforms into a lovely floral and spice. These middle accords of lavender and cinnamon remain for a good 40 minutes and in my opinion this wonderful combination is the highlight of the cologne. Too bad they don't remain throughout the dry down. In the final stages I get a powdery vanilla, leather, and musk: Very pleasant, but not nearly as satisfying as the middle notes.

After the initial blast, I find this to be a subtle smelling fougere style cologne with very low sillage and arm's length projection, so it should work at the office or in houses of worship. (If we ever get beyond this Covid virus pandemic)

As a side note, one has to admire the art deco, male torso shaped bottle. Very classy.

To me, this is a “feel good” cologne. I get a calm sense of well-being when I am wearing it. It leans towards the masculine side, but just barely. The floral notes may not appeal to the “manly man,” but guys, it sits so close to the skin that your male friends probably won't call you a sissy for wearing it! (and your girlfriend will find you irresistible once she starts nibbling on your ear)

Underrated cologne. Pretty versatile. Leather and cardamon are very prominent. Stays close to you. Lasts a decent amount of time (e.g., 6 hours) but does not project much. No real need to buy this but its a fairly safe scent. Probably best for formal settings and night events.

Truely hidden gem and glad that JPG still does not discontinued.

This site really needs to fix how the reviews section works. I wrote a review for this fragrance, no swear words, nothing mean, but it was a negative review. People then down vote it, and it gets taken off of the review page. What you end up with on every page is a majority of positive reviews. I'm surprised that any negative reviews still remain on the entire site. All it takes is a few people who like a fragrance to downvote a review and poof it's gone. It's my opinion that critical reviews are very important in this hobby because it can save people a lot of time and money. BaseNotes is a better page for reviews in this regard, but Fragrantica has a much more active user base with many more reviews. I don't believe anyone's review should be censored unless it contains obscene language. It's sad that Fragrantica does this.

Jovan Musk + Le Male + CH Prive = Le Male Essence de Parfum.

I must stress that there is a ton of spiciness in this, a spice that is nearly identical to Jovan Musk. It's a manly, mature spice. I caution against expectations that this is a modern, mass-pleasing scent, although it does have a certain modern sweetness contained in it. I disliked this perfume the first few times I wore it, but now have grown to enjoy it more. It's for age 35+. It also comes off smelling quite similar to CK One Shock, albeit more mature.

Like a sweet, powdery leather. Not particularly special to me. Bottle looks awesome though. Dislike.

Seems like it got discontinued, so better pick up a backup bootles while you can.

Ps. Don't test it on paper , it's much sweeter and deeper on skin.

The opening on this is kinda harsh and synthetic, but the dry down is pretty nice. This has the original le male DNA to it with a twist of leather. It's actually really close to le male, which is good, but this is more for formal events and is a more classy style offering than le male which is more youthful and better suited for clubbing. This is for a man over 35 in a formal event setting. Not office or casual or even a date scent in my opinion, although you could get away with it.

Performance is a weakness here. It's average to below average longevity, definitely not beastmode. However the sillage is pretty nice in the first hour. Leaves a nice scent trail. Projection is on the weak side. I only get about 4 hours tops with this one.

having a bottle of LMEDP for me this is so seductive comforting oriental date scent, beautiful and mature and not playful.but still having a hint of a le male DNA. 8-10 hrs on my skin having just enough projection. you do not want any date fragrance to be loud AF. your are dating your woman not a crowd.

Le male and Ultra male were the only two frags from JPG I have really enjoyed. This, aside from great looking bottle, a huge pass for me.

Grew up with the original Le Male, got a bit tired of it and never really liked its flankers. Until this one came along! Absolutely love this. I see it as a modern reinterpretation of the original Le Male. Sweet, sexy, mass appealing, though not too common. Not the projection beast Le Male once was, but still a super solid buy! Plus the bottle is a real beauty...

Performance out of tester strip is ridiculous... Calling it essence de parfum must have been a joke! Off the skin is better but still below average.
I don't believe in JPG perfumes in 2020 anymore... It feels like EVERYTHING from that house has been reformulated to death with Ultra Male trying to stand its ground let's say.
I have nearly all flankers of JPGs bought recently and can compare with samples of original formulations... two different worlds of performance :/

It's perfect if you enjoyed (or still enjoy) the original but wished for a more mature version. The mint is replaced with cool, dry leather and quite well complemented with the amped up cardamom.

I've got the original reddish juice with the gold sprayer and as a fan of the original am thoroughly enjoying this flanker - it far surpasses it in versatility.

Mine is burgundy in color, it is a mini, and smells fantastic, though not terribly strong. I cannot deny the like-ability of this. Probably my favorite male scent.

I just purchased this fragrance and the juice is a burgundy color not blue. Is it just the color that is different or has it been reformulated and if so which one is better?

I really love this frag. Much better bottle presentation than le male or ultra male. Imo this can be mass pleasing and very versatile. Not too loud but people will notice.

This is a fragrance that had been on my radar for a while after I tried it in an airport. I remember liking it but couldn't recall why. Lots of users here regard it as a modernized, "mature" take on the original Le Male, so I figured I would give it a shot as a blind buy.

Le Male Essence is IMO not a fragrance you can judge at first sniff. The opening is somewhat harsh with a lot going on, but when you reach the drydown, the true beauty of the fragrance comes through with a somewhat sweet, somewhat powdery leather. The lavender from the original Le Male DNA is still there, but it's far from dominant; the main notes I pick up on are cardamom (a TON of it in the opening), cinnamon, and that nice leather.

What I'm still trying to pin down about Le Male Essence is its wearability. It's no doubt best suited for colder temperatures, but for what occasion? It's not as casual as the original but not as formal as, say, your average Guerlain. It's definitely a more mature take on the original Le Male, but I think there's enough sweetness and booziness in there for it to be appealing for a man in his twenties as well.

Whatever the case, this is clearly a quality, well-blended fragrance with some thought put into it. It's not just another Le Male flanker; this one has its own identity and deserves the updated bottle. Performance is not an issue at all for me, as I get at least 8 hours of longevity.

Give this one some time. It's a good one.

A whoreish version of Le Male .

This fragrance changed my thoughts on J.P. Gaultier fragrances. This is actually the first one which I don't only like, I LOVE it! I hate the original, I hate Le Beau even more because of the coconut note. But this one is hella different story! Can't help myself with this.

It opens with fresh citruses, bergamont mainly but at the same time insanely sweet Not bubblegum sweet though, kinda attractively and alluringly sweet. Then it turned to like a sweet vanilla leather with seductive cinnamond and floral notes like lavender. As it dries down, it becomes more serious, masculine and musky; hints of absin even. This actually reminds me of Armani Code Profumo, they are not the same though but very similar. I also get some a hint of CH Men Privé but in sweeter way, maybe because of a leather note.

On my skin, it projects like a crazyyyy beast after two first hours. Then it comes much closer to the skin but still people around me can smell me. Longevity is also great, 7 hours easily because of its heavy base notes. I sprayed it five sprays like usual and it almost killed me haha.

This is not cloying as original one but it is still strong fragrance. Go easy with this one ;P Even if you can't smell it on yourself, people around you still can for example when you walk pass someone or when you give a left kiss, right kiss, they can smell you.. This is definitely for an outgoing with a huge personality and a bit childish and playful characters. It is still for a grown up and matured guy, 24yrs+.

The opening is pretty "hars" but it drys down pretty fast into a smooth leathery scent .Smells similar to Code Profumo but less sweet IMO.The longevity and sillage is pretty normal around 6+ hours .(with a 2019.09 batchcode)

so guys...I bough this treasure originally for my BF but ended up using it myself...lol...cant stop smelling myself - so much vanila that I cant imagine any straight guy to pull this off. This is very similar to Mon Guerlain - very sweet vanila with lavendel, tres feminine. love. PS: Im a very girly girl and would never wear any mens cologne or an unisex perfume but this truly is feminine perfume, sorry.

I bought this at a duty free shop without smelling it and I can honestly say that I was surprised how beautiful it is. I'm not a Le Male fan but this is more sophisticated with the lavender and leather notes. It is a little sweet, but not syrupy. The vanilla and tonka are more fresh than sugary. It leaves a lovely scent trail behind you.

A superb perfume, probably the best "Le Male" that you can currently buy.

However, it's not the most suitable perfume for the habitual public of JPG fragrances (typically young people, avid for attention and compliments). It's less "playful" and that may cause confusion... ("Does this thing smell like... Leather? And... Sweet? OMG...")

Ok, just wear it and you've got a high quality scent with a truly modern olfactory proposal: It makes a young man more interesting and seductive, and a serious man, more charismatic and appealing.

Sounds good? Well, it smells fantastic.

So you don't need me to tell you its notes, because you can read them, right..? What you need to know, is that it's wonderfully composed and has a beautiful interplay between them.

"Le Male Essence de Parfum" is simply what a great "designer" perfume has to be.

I hate aromatic scents but this one is amazing! I love it! Is unique not like other aromatic scents, is more sweety aromatic scent is delicious and too sexy!!
Is A miracle how vanilla blended with spices is like sugary spices!! I can't stop smelling this scent wow I didn't smell perfume same to this one .
I give this scent 9/10 and sillage is heavy and is long lasting. In my opinion This scent is suitable for date , night club and night events is awesome and attractive.

this was a blind buy for me.. when i first get it, tested it & i'm quite disappointed with the smell & performance, it's not as what i expected, but i was totally wrong after giving it a week of wearing..

Most of the time I don't really like the opening because of the strong leather, cardamom combo, but after giving it about 15 minutes, the strong opening notes toned down, it became softer & very sensual spicy leather notes with some sweetness i think from vanilla & tonka bean. this is so effing gorgeous.. it goes to different direction than the Le Male that i used to know.

4-5 sprays will give u a good sillage & projection for 4-5 hours. The longevity is more than 7 hours. even u can get up to 12 hours when spray on clothes.

A rich, dark and deep scent. Reminds me of the type of designer oud fragrances you may have tried with a more well rounded/agreeable Vanilla finish mixed in.

While this is not to really my tastes I think it's a very well done fragrance. It reminds me a bit of two other very good fragrances of which I'm not a fan either - Givenchy Gentleman EDP (2018) and Bentley for men Intense. People who like those scents should definitely try out this one. Decent sillage.

UPDATE; I find that for me this becomes increasingly pleasant the longer I wear it, which is a long time given the superb performance of 10+ hours on my skin!

It not La male flanker at all...but very nice fragnance...in opening I smell some rum...

To my nose, this doesn't smell much like a Le Male flanker but rather a flanker to La Nuit de L'Homme. Sweet, leathery cardamom bomb.

What a wonderful release from JPG.

Following the current fad, JPG released a "parfum" flanker of their original, that is woodier & more mature. (See: Dior Homme Parfum, Bleu de Chanel Parfum..etc.)

& JPG, it's a success!

Le Male Essence de Parfum starts with a spicy saffron scent & a touch of woodiness & sweetness.

As it fades down, vanilla, leather, & cardamom dominate to create this soft, mildly-sweet, woody, spicy smell that's just wonderful.

Le Male EdP's is mature, beautiful, & attractive that it feels like it really attracts the attention of others when you wear it.

I have to admit, though, that the smell is familiar. Something else I tried smell like this but I don't remember what & it didn't have the same effect on me as Le Male EdP does. JPG did it better!

Know that I am not a big fan of the original Le Male nor gourmand scents in general.

Le Male EdP blindsided me! I blind bought it just because I found a 7ml mini, so I added it to my cart with another order. I had no prior intention of buying it.

Silver sprayer blue juice: 2018 bottle

Some say it is discontinued...but here in the retail shops it is still available.

Possibly the gold tin can version is discontinued, there are a lot of it now in silver tin cans...the sprayer is also silver.
Not so beautiful though.

I do not known if the repackaging also means a reformulation, the juice for this one is blue.

So: Water down the Juice..........Water down the Price !!!!

This fragrance reminds me a bit of an intelligent gentleman sitting in a comfy chair by the fireplace.
Le Male Essence opens on my skin with a puzzling yet elegant,leathery and spicy cardamom mingled with a bit herbal lavender.
As time goes by,he becomes slightly sweeter and leathery with a nice touch of a bit warm cinnamon and vanilla.
Le Male Essence has some similarities to the original Le Male,but he took a different approach.I would say a more serious and sophisticated approach.

Longevity - 7/10(7+ hours)
Silage/Projection - 7,5/10(moderate projection and silage for the first 1-2 hours,than sits closer to skin for the duration of the scent's evolution)
Weather -best in autumn,winter and early spring

I'm in love with this one! It goes in the same direction as L'Homme Ideal EDP and CH Men Prive (because of the leather), but I love this beast more than others I mentioned earlier.

I'm a bit skeptical about this one before but turns out I really like it. In the beginning, it smells boozy and pleasant at the same time. It dries down to this really great le male DNA with added sweetness and warmth (cardamom), similar to La Nuit de L'Homme.

It lasts super long and projects like a beast.

In conclusion, it's a combination of Le Male and a bit of La Nuit de L'Homme and I really love it that I purchased a full bottle right after getting a small decant.

I'm surprised it doesn't get many attention or hype.

Reminds me of Bvlgari Men In Black, but without the boozy/rum note. Warm, smokey sandalwood, sweet. Nice leather too. Perhaps I'm actually more reminded of Joop! Homme Absolute? Not sure, especially since there isn't incense. But the ambience seems similar all the same. Finishes a bit too powdery and vanillic. Otherwise a delightful, cosy-warm scent.

The cloying smell of spice is what makes this scent excellent for the fall, once the ingredients settle down,you smell the leather,woods,lavender and pinch of tonka along with cinnamon and cardamom, this is a great night out on the town type fragrance, you wanna be clean and on the scene when you spray this one, 6 hours till it fades by the 8th , it will cling to your cotton shirt ,it kinda reminds a little of Bentley intense in the final dry down stage, just a little bit,
an overall good blind buy.

This would be one of my favorite scents, if it wasn't very weak. I spray multiple times and it barely radiates and fades very quickly . Beautiful scent, weak performance.

Sweet syrupy warm powdery and a powerful fragrance.Not more than 2 sprays pls.It has that silky, boozy leather masculine vibe in the opening.Hints of cardamom and sage can be felt and with a powdery lavender drydown which makes this perfume interesting .

For me, this is the only JPG I like enough to buy. Normally I find their fragrances way too synthetic and meant for attention seeking teenagers. This one however, is completely the opposite. An absolutely stunning, classy and versatile fragrance. The only JPG that goes with a suit. This is in the same area as CH Men Prive, but Le Male Essence absolutely blows that out of the water. It has a great depth of notes and is incredibly well blended. Great longevity and decent projection without being overpowering.

My girlfriend never cares about what fragrances I wear and will rarely make comments about them, but this stuff she absolutely loves! So if she is pleased, than thats saying something for sure

Its a complete shame that this is discontinued, as I believe this is JPGs best fragrance by a longshot. Hopefully they have more ones like this lined up for the future!

Guys the juice is reddish-brown (burgundy) color do not return it like i did. I had a perfectly fine batch and returned because the juice color should be "blue". I bought it for a good price now it has doubled.

Opens beautifully but then settles into the same fruity leathery bubblegummy vibe as CH Prive or Diesel’s original Only the Brave

I really like this fragrance. It is sweet, but not too sweet, just some sweetness from the tonka, and there is a leather nuance with some smokey tones. Overall a deep smelling masculine blend of tonka/leather/ with a touch of smokiness..

Reminds me a little of Dareej without the lavender and cumin and a little of CH men Prive. I would say they are in the same category. I have used Dareej a lot and would like to change it up. If anyone has this fragrance for swap or anything let me know!

I love it so much I bought the bottle.
I never liked Le Male but a year or so back, The split man was doing samples of the essence. I sampled it and had to have the bottle so went back and purchased the bottle Id got the sample from because I was to scared to buy a different bottle in case it wasn't as good.
I'm really happy with the essence, Not that it's spectacular, like woooe essence, It's not any stronger than the average designer fragrance but, I went back for the scent.
It's really good, Much better than the original Le male for my taste, It reminds me of my grand fathers scent.
I live with a bloke who wears alot of Tobacco Vanille and other similar super sweet scent, And I adore those scent but' I can hardly tell them all apart half the time.
But when he wears this, I know straight away because this is a beautiful masculine traditional smell to me.
This is what sweet men's fragrance smelt like before they started making super sweet gourmands. Before they crucified masculinity. lol
So yeah, This is sweet, old school, better than Le male IMHO.
I recommend sampling it first because if you love super strong you could be dissapointed.
It's not loud, big silage strong but it is close and long lasting.

First, the bottle is awesome! Some may see it as cheesy, but I like it. For the record, the juice is not blue...its more brown.

I also get a very similar vibe to CH Men Prive. It is surprisingly boozy.

To me, this is a more modern take on the original. The original's "powdery-sweetness" is still in this, but not nearly as overbearing.

The booziness is comparable to CH Men Prive, but this is more leather-oriented, while CH Men Prive is all about the booze.

The lavender also plays a huge role. The way the leather and lavender mix is very well done. The sweet, leathery tone is just great.

I do like this a lot. I think this will definitely get some use in the winter.

To me it smells very woody and masculine. It has some cool and sweet freshness that give me hints of an alcohol beverage. I don't like it. The base of it is not smooth and nice. Smells mature.

I test Le Male Essence side by side with CH men prive, both IMO have quite similar leather note similar boozy sensual vibe, and moderate projection but Le Male Essence is much richer and have a much better longevity compared with the current water down CH men prive. Price is a steal for such a beautiful perfume.

its a cheap buy right now and a steal, better longevity than many JGP releases. It is typical sweet sugary leather fragrance. Is it getting discontinued ? I don't see any new stocks and so bought 3 bottles that was dirt cheap selling at a fragrance retail.

Quentin Bisch seemed to be a very interesting and artistic person in that BBC documentary, and he is indeed meeting the expectations. Already has style, craft and trademark. I'm so expectant to see what he can offer to the world of perfumery during the next years.

Amazing bottle design and amazing fragrance.

I get a mix of spice, sweetness and leather. For a Le Male flanker, it doesn't have much of the original DNA in it. To me, this smells like CH Men Prive. I'm not saying it's a clone but it gives me a similar vibe. In saying that, I love CH Men Prive and this too.

I'm going straight to the point; this is so beautiful and balanced it boggles my mind. I give it the highest remark.

Bottle, sillage, longevity, smell, masculinity, balance, character/uniqueness, versatility. This one is a solid release that doesn't lack anything.

It may be too thick for extremely hot humid weather like we have now in Sweden at the time of writing.

Geared towards the non-teenager. This is going towards the direction of mature and formal. But it works just as well as a bad boy leather jacket frag for younger people in my opinion.

I remember smelling this upon release curiously. It wasnt for me I thought, but it smelled delicious and new. Sometimes it's hard to recognize greatness upon initial smell.

I immediately knew it was quality, but my persona needed time to adjust to the tought of me wearing this kind of fragrance. I'm a freshie. Tend to like lighter frags.

This smells spicy and creamy. A bit dry. The note fo leather/suede is dominating the entire experience. It smells very natural.

Some flowers going on just beneath the spicy suede, you just sense them.

I tend not to like cardamom in excess. Here the cardamom is a key player but it blends in so well that it never gets too sweet. The sweetness is tickeling the nose, enticingly. Never satisfying your sweet tooth. The sweet/spicy combo is actuallt JUST right. For example, I find the legendary Spicebomb to be good but for my taste it's a little too sweet.

This fragrance is NOT Le Male despite the name. It's another beast. But it's hiding, deep in the bakground. And when you let it dry down to itS final stages you kind of smell the classic Le Male again. Very subdued and very intrically infused in the new experience of how a modern man smells like. JPG is very ahead in the innovation game for designers, on par with Dior.

It took some time but I bought a bottle recently for fall. The question is if it performs in the compliment section. I have no idea.

What a lovely perfume. Already given up hope on finding this in the stores, it just happened that two days ago i found this listed online and it was the last 1 in stock! So i had to grab it.

Notice: this is my first JPG Le Male ever so i feel a bit disappointed not being able to enjoy the glorious 90's using the original Le Male.

The review: I don't really know where people came with leather note from, cardamom yes to an extent and its spiciness can be felt right away if you overspray on your skin. Nose up-close there's a constant and a precisely calculated sweetness of vanilla fused with hints of lavender.

The bottle is a modern and revolutinary art statement. What a smart way to revive a long running fragrance line. Bravo JPG.

For me this smells like the original JPG le male, but with a hint of smooth leather. Absolutely beautiful with great lasting power and average projection.

Imagine a leather jacket in which you drive your motorcycle. Imagine how this jacket smells after having spent the night in a bar: where the scent of tobacco, smoke, and a whiskey shot that you spilled over, has impregnated it. Do you picture it? Ok, now add it notes of cardamom, Tonka Bean, and the classic lavender/vanilla DNA of Le Male. The result; Essence de Parfum. If you like DG - The One EDP or CH Men Prive, you'll love this one. Think of it as the Badass / Rockstar version of them.

Underrated , what a sexy monster, smells gorgeous and super unique. Marvelous performance and longevity I adore this!! Why was I sleeping on this all along ??

Respectable juice

You get very little of the original DNA , but you do get something that succeeded in being a more casual and summer appropriate smooth and sensual version of YSL la nuit l homme.

This means that lavender and cardamom are major notes, but the vanilla and slight mint remind you that this is a JPG.

For me personally the cardamom comes off slightly bitter and I already have CH men Prive, so I don't need this.

Respectable and more aromatic than I thought, I suggest you try it out .

Longevity was 6 hours on me with fair projection.

A sexually charged bomb of the highest caliber. A bit of Black Afgano in the intro, which segues into the cardamom of La Nuit, and in the finale the original Le Male emerges and takes the stage. Dead. Sexy. Stunner. I'll call it right now: this scent will dethrone Aventus as the Compliment King, you watch. Do not sleep on this.

Burst of carmdamom and pepper in the opening. The scent settles quite soon and... And it's one of the best male perfumes I have ever smelled.

I get mostly animalic leather, raw, masculine, yet still gentle. Very realistic leather so we are not talking about Bvlgari Black kind of a leathery/rubbery smell. It's accompanied by lavender, cardamom and underlined with very soft and gentle vanilla which is unlike in original Le Male far less sweeter. Deep down I get also a hinf of cinnamon and musk.

All I can think of when smelling this and trying to find one word to describe it, is - sex. This is incredibly sensual, seductive. If I should picture a movie character it would Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing: that scene where he leaves Baby in his dark leather jacket, driving away in a classic American car and you know life is never gonna be the same after he leaves.

I love original Le Male and I expected this to be flanker with Le Male plus something added. But I get completely new scent with only a little bit of original Le Male DNA added somewhere far in the background not to stand it in a way of a new, brilliant perfume.

Fall to spring suitable for various occasions. Worthy signature scent for sure.

I am new to this whole fragrance thing and i only have 15 fragrances because I am in college but I do love fragrances and I'm by no means good at fragrance notes except for a select few, just a disclaimer. NOW!

This fragrance is what I would call SEDUCTIVE. If you wear this during a close encounter, and have a charming, smooth, laid back, yet slightly bad boy personality, but with good intentions, this fragrance would make the girl you are courting crazy over you. Wear this on a casual/ personal light out with your partner, probably a leather jacket or a denim jacket, simple white or black t-shirt dark wash jeans etc. Don't try to be over the top, just simply look casual and well put together but not in a formal way and this would be perfect! This is for the guy that knows what he wants but knows that he needs not to be hasty, he knows he is in control but doesn't brag about it, if your are that kind of guy, go for it!

Probably one of the most original and different "Le Male" that exists.
Leather is what is most appreciated in the nose just pulverize it. Lavender is very present too.
The smell of this fragrance is very original and doesn't resemble any that you have smelled before.
I remember when it came out and the bottle seemed to me, and it seems to me, the most beautiful bottle in the world. The bad thing is when you finish the perfume, it looks like a crystal figure with no color at all and loses part of its charm ... but hey, you can buy another and that's it.
Without a doubt, one of my favorite perfumes, the smell is very special.
Being "Essence of perfume" I assumed that it would be much stronger, because after a few hours if you do not stick your nose on your wrist, you can not smell it almost.

A wonderful bottle to complement a wonderfully rich burst of a multi faceted essence. Quality lavender with a minty breath, an excellent sweet tooth and a bit of spice for color. This scented burst is pure bliss .... while it lasts. 20-30 minutes later it (expectedly) loses its intensity and the fragrance becomes a leathery vanilla that neither smells rich, nor blissful anymore. It feels slightly harsh on my skin. Which is a disappointment because the excellent start deserves a better end.
It's a good addition to the Le Male family though and is very easy to wear.

Even more sexy fragrance and fantastic bottle!The aroma combines something from the fresh leathery combination of Habit Rouge,the softness and the velvety effect of the vintage Dior homme and of course the DNA of the original Le Male by Gaultier. It's Fall and with the crisp cool air, I wore Le Male Essence de Parfum for the first time in month. I love this scent. The leather note combined with the cardamon, lavender, vanilla and cinnamon make this scent such a warm and attractive fragrance to wear. It doesn't 'shout' and in some ways it reminds me (a bit) of La Nuit de L'Homme. A sexy fragrance that gets me compliments as well.

In 2016, Jean Paul Gaultier introduced to the world a new version of his iconic Le Male (from 1995), as well as a new variation on the famous feminine perfume, called Classique (from 1993). The story of two fragrances, true bestsellers, meets innovation. According to the brand, it is a new step, bringing the famous duo to Belle Parfumerie.

The concept behind the fragrances reveals a laboratory located inside the "Gaultier’s factory", that has been explored in the last campaigns. In fact, the hardcover book (made for the press) brings exclusive photos on the subject.

But before talking about its development, it is worth explaining one thing: the leather note is not strong, nor dry. The perfumer himself - Quentin Bisch - explains in the official video that he used the osmanthus flower to get a soft nuance of suede.
That said, Le Male Essence de Parfum is basically a scent that exudes cardamom and Artemisia, followed by a heart of lavender and cinnamon, on a tonka bean base. I do not see much connection with the original fragrance, except for the lavender, which is the note that starts the process of olfactory memory in my brain.

On my skin, I felt more resemblance with fragrances like CH Men and Spicebomb, than with Le Male. And that disappoints me a bit. In addition, another important aspect is to clarify that the projection is not absurd, as in Ultra Male, for example. Here, the fragrance stays closer, although it has high durability.

To finish, I have to talk about the bottle that is, in my opinion, the great highlight in this new duo. Jean Paul Gaultier always faced the question of genres in his work, including in perfumery, and the fetish by sailors was exalted through the famous green torso. Now, as occurred with the dummies in the shop windows, their bottles also evolved and gained muscle. In today's market, the lean body of yesteryear is no longer attractive. And the new Le Male Essence de Parfum shows a stronger torso, with broader shoulders and straighter waist. It has six-pack belly and the finishing have become more copper colored. It draws attention inside any collection!

really nice fragrance. the leather note is what shines surrounded by spices and cardamom.. the spices aren't too thick or heavy but they are present. In other words its not a cinnamon bomb or pepper bomb to me but they are combined to give it a spicy edge. The lavender is also not over powering either and just smooths out the edges. The sweetness is there but light. Over all its a smooth masculine composition that differs from the original. the strong synthetic minty sweetness is not there. I really like the scent itself.. the only thing I worry about is the performance, The longevity seems ok , but the projection might be lacking.

People are seriously complaining about longevity? I've had no issues at all, easily get 6-8 hours on skin, how much more do you need? On clothes much longer. A really nice cold weather scent, my only dislike is the stupid tin which makes it difficult to open

Essence (sometimes referred to as "Gaultier Premium Cologne) is of the warm/spicy/sweet variety a la Spicebomb, Bulgari Man in Black, CH Men, La Nuit, etc. It's mostly a blend of cardamom, cinnamon, tonka, some vanilla, lavender, and leather. What's nice about it is that all the notes are doled out in the proper proportions. It's well-balanced and nothing seems to dominate to the point where it becomes overbearing or annoying, and it doesn't feel like anything's missing either. The addition of costus to the composition has worked well here, adding a nice musky warmth underneath everything, which makes the fragrance sit well, blending it with the body's natural heat and creating a very cozy kind of "second skin." What Le Male Essence reminds me of most is a blend of two Parfums de Marly scents, Habdan and Layton. While Habdan is the darker of the two, possessing a sort of leathery myrrh made sweet through the addition of caramel, Layton relies on cardamom and lavender to generate its spicy heart, which is also a central accord in Essence. So while LME isn't wildly original, it's original enough for the mainstream market and actually smells really good, especially up close. And up-close is how you'll have to smell it because unfortunately Essence doesn't project more than a few inches off the body. That's my one serious gripe with this one--its performance is significantly lacking. Anyone expecting to wear this and have others notice it will surely be let down, as it seems designed (whether intentional or not) for intimate situations only. Personally, I'd like to see its projection beefed up quite a bit. While I generally don't complain about projection, its reservedness in this case feels like more of a mistake or the effect of cutting corners rather than any kind of intentionally calibrated subtlety. Longevity is nothing great either, clocking in around 4 to 5 hours. Overall, I'm giving Le Male Essence a thumbs up with a warning that it has below average performance. So definitely sample it first if that concerns you.

EDIT: I just read another review where the reviewer said this smells like Carven Homme. That nails it! A big part of Essence reminded me exactly of something else and I couldn't put my finger on it. Carven Homme it is.

this sucks. i absolutely love this scent. it is my 2nd fave in my collection of around 75 bottles right now. gorgeous. i cant stop smelling myself. and thats the problem. for a "parfum" concentration? this is bad. very light,close to the skin,wears off (on me) within 2 hours. other "parfum" strength colognes last half the day, this one just doesnt on my skin. i need an essence de parfum INTENSE version, pronto. i will beg JPG to release an intense version. it needs to match it's name. performs like an EDT. a weak one. love it to death, but it just isnt long lasting enough. brilliant scent, though. clean and modern.

This is the best of the Le Male serie, but not good enough to make me fall in love with it.
It is sweet, deep and slightly spicy, a combination that i normally like, but it has something that puts me off. I think it tries too hard to smell manly. You know that vibe you get with axe fragrances? that is what i get here. It is not as strong as in axe fragrances, but it is still here, in the backgroung, screaming "look at me! i am a man!". If not for it, i would have liked this fragrance much more ( i wouldn´t even have minded the bubble gum smell).
The way it is, it is just a "like" for me. I like when my husband wears it, i wouldn´t mind smelling it in a coworker or on an man in the streets, but i wouldn´t buy my husband a bottle of it and when his sample gets empty i can not say i will miss this fragrance.
P.S: sillage is powerful, please do not overspray.

I don't get vanilla until the very end. Ditto - synthetic.

Do I enjoy it? For the first 2 hours, yes. Especially during that first bubblegumy phase.

After that, it sort of turns on my skin into a sweet, musky, cardamom weirdness. Not offensive, but certainly not head-turning. Personally, I don't enjoy it that much, and won't be rushing out to get a bottle. Like ever.

I definitely wouldn't recommend getting this one until you've tried it on your skin a few times. And oh yeah, I completely agree with others who prefer Ultra Male over this. That stuff is a metrosexual MAGNET for the ladies. Tootie-Fruity-Booty goodness. POW (Spanking sound).

Tested this today. The opening notes were just ok but I really liked the creamy vanilla leather drydown. But I like Ultra Male a little bit more. Not unique enough to need to own both.

To me, it resembles Spicebomb, but a little bit creamer and not so spicy, which was very nice. I noticed its good sillage for a long time. Negative point: too expensive.

So disappointed!!

Out the bottle this is a joy but on my skin it just seems to dissipate way too quickly for what essentially is an Eau De Parfum.

I get approx. 2 hours longevity from it before it completely disappears from my body entirely. I get fantastic compliments from my colleagues in the morning but no one remarks on it after lunch and I usually have to spray it again to get people talking.

Cinnamon and leather leap and cling to me before the dry down of soft vanilla takes over but again this only facilitates the rapidness in which it dies off on my skin :(

So disappointed. Average in every category.

I own CH Prive and this, and I can assure you in terms of complexity and depth, JPG Essence wins hands down. It does not smell synthetic in any way and blends smoothly on the skin.

This smells really good, I just love the cardamom and leather in this. A very pleasant scent, but nothing too special or unique, similar scents have been done, such as La Nuit or CH Men Prive (those two are better in my opinion). Le Male Essence de Parfum is not too strong, does not project well and dies down quite quickly. I would say it is a nice addition to JPG collection and could be called something else entirely, no need for that 'Le Male' in the name. I would rather recommend CH Men Prive instead of this as they are somewhat similar, but Prive feels like it has more going on.

I'm wearing Le Male Essence de Parfum and all I can say is that I really like this scent. The cardamon and leather in this scent...the hints of cinnamon, lavender and vanilla make this a very attractive scent. If you like La Nuit de L'Homme or CH Men Prive...you have to check this out!

I am surprised the love column isn't a lot longer. I think this one is an amazing new scent. Definitely one of my favourite new releases. I am coming back to you Rez.

I might be biased though because I tend to always love leather fragrances. And I realise leather is nothing new but I still just love it.

This fragrance smells great, in my opinion. It is fairly unique, I get a sweet, powdery leather and a hint of the classic Le Male. I am a little disappointed in the longevity considering the concentration, but that could just be my skin, although others have complained as well. The projection is lacking as well, I feel for the price it should perform better. All in all, the scent is fantastic and manly. I just wish the performance was better than average, but it isn't really. I don't think it is a safe blind buy, best to test it out first before spending the $$$.

A basic, lavender-powdery fragrance which would be good for someone new to fragrance..

I applied 6 heavy sprays

0 - 3 hours - 7 inch projection. The first time I sniffed this I got an acid like burning sensation in my nose. The second time was more palatable. This fragrance is very linear and entry level. It has dominant lavender with some cardamom. IMHO this has poor ingredients and has quality akin with Playboy fragrances.

3 hours - 5 hours - 2 inch projection. This fragrance has low projection but is a strong skin scent.

5 hours - 8 hours. Strong lavender powder skin scent, with some candy like sweetness.

8- 14 hours. Still there!

This fragrance is nothing new and is made for the masses. To compare this to something? Well it is very generic and nothing new but hard to pinpoint which fragrance it is like, other than Playboy frags. I would say it is in the ball park of YSL La Nuit with the cardamom and Lavender, but with candy like sweetness.

It has low projection so not really good for clubbing or standing out, instead it lasts a long time on the skin so could be more for intimate occasions...

Umm...not sure that my initial thoughts on (below average) performance are accurate. Wore this today (purposely oversprayed with 8 blasts), I love the smell: at work, I'm in the warehouse a lot... anyway, more than 6 hours in, o received two compliments, when I could not smell myself anymore. The first, as my sexy female coworker walked into the room as I was sitting at my desk. I asked her if she was sure, and she emphatically replied, "Yeaah..", and the a little later with a customer outside, who i recently turned on to Insurrection Pure II, said , "You smell good!". SO, there's definitely more projection than I think.!! A little later, I re-applied 2 small sprays, and Luiz (who I turned on to Black XS L'Exces) goes, "u smell good, CuzzZ!" Stay tuned...!

Is this a cool sexy fragrance? Yes it is it has a major drawback I get 5 hours from this edp and it doesn't project. If it could be made to last longer or project more it would be perfect it starts off like Armani code profumo then dries down to a sophisticated le male

First time I sniffed this was on the Airport in Barcelona... great scent.. kept on sniffin my wrist... Bought a bottle...but after buying i started noticing this does not project at all. This stays so close to the skin that you need to press your nose on it to smell it. Longetivity is ok, only when I hit the gym hard is when its start coming loose from the skin and getting a small bit of sillage. Dissapointed because it smells great but just for the wearer.

this one is like le male's angelic little brother. it's toned down significantly, much softer, muskier and like a softest plush cushion. i'm not a fan of the performance though, it has no projection, i just need to see about the longevity, but it doesn't give any promises for now.

so, i like it, but it seems pretty much generic although i can't put my finger on what it reminds me off exactly. anyone have a suggestion about similar fragrances?

Tried it few weeks ago and since I expected it to have more common with Le Male I thought I might be missing something. So I decided to try it a few more times before writing on it, and here it finally goes.

First impression, I really liked the bottle and just because the shape of it I expected it to be more similar to original Le Male. And there goes the first surprise, it has very little similarities to Le Male (at least from what I expected). Sure, there is connection to it, but not even close as expected having in mind it wears the name is "Le Male Essence". That being said, it leaves me with a feeling it is more like a new scent than the continuation to the original, and surprisingly for me I find it to have some similarities with YSL La Nuit. To be honest this is totally fine by me, I don't expect it to be the same as Le Male and after several time wearing it I have to say this change is pretty much welcomed for myself. Another thing that I liked is that is it pretty noticeable to myself for the whole duration of wearing it (I tend to wear and select scents so that they are pleasant for myself, without thinking will it get noticed and/or liked by others).

For me it has nice and warm touch to it, quite sensual fragrance, less powdery and a bit sweeter then Le Male. I feel some leather, cardamom and vanilla with just a small touch of lavender and cinnamon, quite a nice and warm combination for this time of year. To me it produces that feeling it is made to satisfy the person who is wearing it rather then to scream and impose to all the other surrounding people. In case this leaves an impression that the scent itself has poor longevity or silage, I would rather describe it as more private scent that is still fairly noticeable, but just not as strong and assailant as some others scents. As for the longevity it lasts for some 6-7 hours on my skin.

Overall I have to say that the more I wear it, the more I like it, and now after completing tester I had I will surely be getting one for myself.

I just got mine in the mail today purchased from an eBay seller & think it might be a fake. The bottle & packaging look great & authentic but the fragrance is so weak & just smells like the original with some added light leather. I sprayed 5 heavy sprays on my arm & the scent is so light turns into a skin scent really fast & almost disappears. Anyone know if there are fakes of this out there? Thanks

I agree with msajoy below that this is perhaps the best fragrance release for men in 2016 along with Valentino Uomo Intense - in quality and smell.

All I care about when I choose a fragrance are the compliments from the opposite sex..!
And believe me,ladies love this stuff..!
Also,I feel very lucky,because the longevity(over 7 hours) and the projection on my skin are very good.!
A must have fragrance for every collector,like me,not only for the quality of this blue juice,but for the bootle 2..!!OMG..WHAT A DESIGN..!!

Very good longevity and projection. I have it on my hand for 5 hours and is still going strong, so i really can't understand the complaints about poor performance.
It has the dna smell of the original, the idea of that chic smell, but the fragrance is dominated by the leather-suede accord. Sweet but not overly sweet.

This is for sure has the Le Male slide and signature cardmon and vanilla but also ithas the tuscan leather note into it giving it different into it.

The more I wear this, the more I like it. This is very nice. It is not loud...but the scent lasts for quite awhile. The combination of leather, lavender and cardamon make this a nice, sexy scent. I recommend this one!

Just tried this at the airport, it's certainly different to the rest of the range. Don't love or dislike it. Will have to try it a few more times to decide if it's worth getting a full bottle

very nice. not too loud. spicy foral and powdery, almost a little earthy or medicinal at times. i quite like it. highly recommended.

Le Male Essence De Parfum is amazing i bought the 125ml bottle and I love it.

I tried this on a tester strip and literally couldn't smell anything but paper ..I moved on to trying others in the store ..will have to try again on my skin next time I'm in a store but things aren't looking good.

So I picked up a bottle of Le Male Essence at the duty free and have worn it for a few days. I'm still testing this fragrance, but can give some initial thoughts for those interested in buying this:

1. If you bought this thinking you would be getting yet another variation of 'Le Male' guess again. This is not the same thing. Sure, like 'Le Male' there is: cardamon, vanilla and lavender, but it is blended quite differently and has no orange blossom or mint. For those saying this fragrance isn't good because it doesn't smell like 'Le Male'.....I get it because this has the name 'Le Male' in it and has a similar bottle, but I won't rate this poorly because it is quite different. Also - how many more variations of the original can you do?

2. It is a warmer, more sensual fragrance. The cardamon is fairly prominent and gives it a 'La Nuit de L'homme' vibe to some extent.

3. It is surprisingly decent in the longevity department. I sprayed it on me 6 hours ago and can easily detect it still. It is not a 'screamer' though - projection is decent, but I don't think it is designed to project heavily or leave a big scent trail.

Do I like it? Yes, but I like it for reasons others don't like it.

1. It doesn't smell like the original, and I'm OK with that.

2. It has notes in it that I like - Cardamon, lavender, leather. It also has cinnamon like the original. It is slightly sweet, but not overly sweet.

Still testing, but these are my initial impressions.

Edit #1 - So another full wearing today. I really do think this is a sensual fragrance. Longevity is not bad on this, but if you like your fragrances a bit 'louder' this is not for you. I like it. It's my kind of fragrance. I like fragrances like this, Armani Code Special Blend, Nuit D'Issey Parfum. All of those fragrances are nice, have a sensual, slightly darker edge to them...but not overly loud. One other comment: beautiful bottle!

I bought a bottle because it's really beautiful, and I enjoyed Ultra Male a lot. Unfortunately I must agree to the consensus that the perfume itself is not very good. It has no resemblance to the original Le Male or Ultra Male. I can't understand why they made such a subpar perfume for this bottle.

My advice is to stay away from this. It's a cheap perfume dressed up in a beautiful bottle to make you pay more for it. It's not worth it, and I regret my purchase.

a light scent of lavender with no relation to the evil. other notes are mild. I wonder why it's called essence of perfume when it should be called eau de parfum. 1/10 poor performance.

After testing again and still feeling underwhelmed I walked away thinking 'essence' is that a new description among cologne, edt, edp? You know, where lawyers cannot let you call it either of the latter? Because it's so inferior and substandard to even qualify to be called even cologne. Thumbs so down mine are in my shoes.

Nothing new or unique about it. Performance is good.
