IMAX with laser opens at Queensgate in time for Avatar

The world’s most innovative movie-going experience arrives in Wellington

The wait is over, Wellingtonians can now experience IMAX WITH LASER at the all-new Event Cinemas Queensgate, opening just in time for the release of AVATAR: The Way of Water on Thursday 15 December.

Christmas has come early for cinema goers with New Zealand’s second IMAX opening at the Queensgate cinema complex 20 years after the first came to Auckland. The Capital can now boast IMAX’s most advanced theatre experience alongside the City of Sails.

IMAX WITH LASER has been developed from the ground-up to be immersive by design and deliver crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio for a movie going experience unlike anything else.

It is unmatched with a ground-breaking 4K laser projection system that features a new optical engine, custom designed lenses, and a suite of proprietary technology that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colours exclusively to IMAX screens.

Movie goers will have the choice to upgrade their seat to match their mood. Every cinema will give guests options to switch up their experience from spacious standardseating to the laid-back luxury of full recliners.

In addition to IMAX, Event Cinemas Queensgate will re-open with an amazing food and beverage experience including an eye-popping Candy Bar, and a PLAY entertainment arcade to hang out with friends.

IMAX WITH LASER opens during phase one of the Cinema’s reopening. Full completion of Event Cinemas Queensgate will be early 2023.
