HP’s new iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PC, including the one above showing it alongside those new Bluetooth stereo headphones HP is coming out with soon. The verdict: they’re rather bland-looking, especially compared with some of the iPAQs that came out last year or even that new Axim X50 that’s coming from Dell.

Anyway, the hx2000 series was conspicuously absent (well, at least to people like us who make a career out of obsessing over these things) when HP announced all those other new Pocket PCs back in July, but we still don’t know much about them. What we’ve heard is that there’ll be at least three models in the series, the hx2100, the hx2400, and the hx2700, and that the hx2100 is supposed to have a 316MHz processor, 64MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch transflective display, Bluetooth, and CompactFlash and SDIO expansion card slots; the hx2700 is supposed to have pretty much the same thing, just with a 624MHz processor, 802.11b, and 128MB of ROM; and we don’t really have much dirt on the hx2400, but it’ll probably fall somewhere inbetween the hx2100 and the hx2700. Make sure you click to see the rest of the pics, which show the hx2000 with a similar snap-on keyboard to the one used in HP’s h6315 Pocket PC Phone.

There will be 3 models in the line: the flagman hx2750, the mid-range model hx2410 and the budget solution hx2110.

All the new handhelds look identical. The hx2750 features a 624 MHz Intel XScale processor, 128 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM, fingerprint scanner and wireless interfaces Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b), Bluetooth 1.2.
The hx2410 has a less productive 520 MHz processor, less memory 64 MB for both RAM and ROM. There are also wireless adapters Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b0 and Bluetooth 1.2.

HP iPaq2110 has undergone dramatic changes: the frequency rate has dropped to 312 MHz, there is no Wi-Fi interface, and the battery is capacious of 920 mAh.The official release is set for November 2004. The price is not yet specified.

HP has announced its new iPAQ hx2000 series of Pocket PCs, comprised of three models targeted at enterprise users with a focus on performance, connectivity and expandability. First to include the hx2110, hx2410 and hx2750 models, the series offers processor speeds ranging from 312 to 624 MHz, and user-available memory ranging from 88 to a whopping 214 MB.

HP goes after the enterprise with the introduction of its new hx2000 series

Despite their differences, the three models first and foremost have several features in common, such as their physical design; the inclusion of CompactFlash Type II and SDIO capable SD/MMC Card expansion slots; and being powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 SE for Pocket PC platform. Furthermore, the three models share a 3.5" transflective TFT QVGA colour display with 16-bit colour depth and resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, as well as a 3.5 mm earphone jack.

The most basic device of the three new models is the hx2110, which offers a 312 MHz Intel PXA270 processor along with 64 MB of Flash ROM and 64 MB of RAM, of which 88 MB is available to users. The hx2110 is powered by an exchangeable 920 mAh Lithium Ion battery, and in addition to expansion slots also features Bluetooth and IrDA for connectivity purposes.

Cranking processor speed up a notch, the hx2410 boasts a 520 MHz Intel PXA270 processor, but remains equal to the hx2110 with regard to memory. Unexpectedly, this model does not include neither Bluetooth nor IrDA for connectivity purposes, however is expected to offer longer battery life both as a result of the lack of wireless support and its 1440 mAh Lithium Ion battery.

And finally, in a show of force, the hx2750 incorporates not only a top-speed 624 MHz Intel PXA270 processor, but also a whopping 128 MB of Flash ROM and 128 MB of RAM, of which an unprecedented 213 MB is available to users. Furthermore, this model also boasts not only Bluetooth and IrDA connectivity, but also includes support for Wi-Fi 802.11b - and brings back a trait from the venerable iPAQ h5000 series.

Featuring a biometric fingerprint reader, the iPAQ hx2750 will be the first new iPAQ since 2002 to offer biometric identification, backed up by software from Creadant Technologies - the latter of which is also found on its own in the two other models in the hx2000 series. As with the hx2410, the hx2750 is powered by a 1440 mAh Lithium Ion battery, and all three models will be compatible with a 2880 mAh Lithium Ion battery to be offered as an accessory by HP. On a related note, the models will also share commonality of all accessories across models, including standard and extended batteries, styluses, cradles, AC chargers

The HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PC will be available in December 2004 in larger European markets, with the iPAQ hx2110 selling for $530 USD; the iPAQ hx2410 selling for $640 USD; and, finally, the iPAQ hx2750 for $790 USD.
