The BMW 2002 of 1968-1976 is known for its pinpoint handling, precise steering, and spirited performance. The 2002, which helped define the sports sedan category, was one of the marque’s first major success stories in the United States. The 2002 Touring model currently available on eBay is an especially rare bird that was never sold in the US.

The 2002 remains a favorite with collectors to this day. Values continue to increase as its reputation spreads, and good examples become harder to find. With its hatchback design, the Touring model adds a bit more practicality for larger loads—and it has a distinctive profile.

The example on eBay dates from the 1972 model year. It further stands out by having just 28,000 miles showing on the odometer. To sweeten the deal, it comes with lots of documentation and service records.

Originally imported to South America, this 2002 Touring spent most of its life in Colombia before relocating to the US. Despite its low mileage, the car went through a complete restoration of the body and mechanical components. The eBay sale includes receipts and documentation for all of the work.

The 2002 Touring here has served as a poster car for the BMW Car Club of Colombia. It appeared in the LiquiMoly Calendar in addition to being an award winner in multiple shows.

30 Pages of Documentation

This 2002 is powered by its original 99-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine matched with a four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the car runs well with no fluid leaks and shifts smoothly through all the gears.

Refinished in the lovely and original Fjord Metallic blue with a black interior, the car presents almost as new. There is minimal wear to the original interior as you would be expected in such a low-mileage example. Under the hood, it displays original stickers and labels, all in excellent condition.

The Touring has an aggressive stance and is ready for the road. The car is equipped with oversize contemporary 205/60 R13 Hankook Kinergy radial tires mounted on upgraded BMW spoked wheels. Aftermarket halogen headlights sit on top of the front bumper.

All chrome and badging are present and in excellent condition. The car wears period stickers documenting its time with the Colombian BMW club—adding to its authenticity and uniqueness.

The extremely rare 2002 Touring is ready to be driven by the new owner. It’s offered with a Buy-It-Now price of $35,000, including two sets of keys and more than 30 pages of historical documentation. This 1972 BMW 2002 Touring is a rare opportunity to own a revered classic that is only likely to appreciate.
