Porsche Panamera Generations
Porsche is known for rolling off durable vehicles with advanced safety features and powerful engines. In fact, according to dubizzle’s luxury annual car market report 2022, Porsche is one of the most popular used car brands in the UAE.
Porsche’s popularity in the used car segment is backed by the higher quality offered in their cars including the Panamera. That said, here is the history of the Porsche Panamera in more detail.
First Generation (2009 to 2013)
Porsche unveiled Panamera at the Shanghai Motor Show, and the car was well-received by consumers. The Panamera was inspired by the concept car Porsche 989, released in the 1980s.
The front fascia features a pointed hood, swept-back headlights and small air vents at the lower bumper. Meanwhile, the rear end has a hatchback-styled window and triangular backlights.
The cabin comes with a contested high-end upholstery. The centre console features an infotainment system and the instrument cluster adjustment behind the steering wheel.
The first generation Panamera was offered in three different trims namely S, Turbo and 4S. Each has a 4.8-litre V8 engine paired with a standard 6-speed manual and optional 7-speed dual-clutch transmission system.
First Generation Facelift (2014 to 2015)
After four successful years, Porsche released the facelifted version of Panamera’s first generation in 2014. Old swept-back headlights were replaced with standard Bi-Xenon headlights and optional LED lamps. The redesigned front and rear bumpers improved the aerodynamics and sporty appearance. At the rear, a large windscreen was installed.
The interior was uplifted with a redesigned console and instrument cluster. This time, a round tachometer was installed in the middle of the instrument cluster to provide real-time car information. Moreover, the infotainment system was equipped with Porsche Communication Management (PCM) which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Inside the hood, a 3.6-litre V6 engine was offered with a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission.
Second Generation (2016 to 2020)
The second generation Panamera was released with some major changes in the interior, exterior and driver-assist features. The hood size was reduced, as some part of the engine was moved under the windscreen. However, the swept-back headlights retained their position.
The cabin was divided by a centre console that stretches between the front seats and the dashboard. The infotainment screen was adjusted in the centre of the dashboard and the instrument cluster was at the back of the steering wheel. Similar to previous models, a tachometer was present in the middle of the dashboard.
To increase driveability, an adaptive suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes were present. A wide range of engines were offered in this generation accompanied by an optional AWD and 2WD drivetrain.
Current Generation of Panamera (2020 to Present)
The latest Porsche Panamera model was unveiled in 2020 with a redesigned front and rear end. At the front end, newly designed bumper and air vents are present. However, at the rear, the car features narrow brake lights.
The cabin offers a PCM and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen present in the centre of the dashboard. Moreover, the infotainment system in the current generation supports features like voice pilot, Apple CarPlay and voice control. The three-dial instrument cluster is present behind the steering wheel.
Porsche offers a twin-turbo V6 engine that can produce a total of 330hp. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission system.
