utopias beer

In case you were looking to get into the finer side of beer, Sam Adams has got just the thing with its Utopias brew and new beer-seasoned cigars. Utopias isn't your average beer. In fact the special beverage is a barrel-aged and uncarbonated dark beer that is enjoyed at room temperature. Sam Adams suggests savoring the drink, "like vintage fortified wine or fine cognac." Utopias comes in a decorative bottle and the recipe is tweaked slightly each year for a limited-time unique brew. For 2013, the small-batches beer drinkers can expect, "notes of dark fruit like fig, subtle sweetness, and a deep rich malty smoothness" and 28 percent alcohol by volume. There are less than 15,000 bottles in circulation each year and they retail for $199 each.

Along with this high-end brew comes a Sam Adams beer-scented cigar. The cigars, made in collaboration with Ted's Cigars, are meant to be paired with the unique Utopias blend. The experience of smoking what is apparently the world's first craft beer-season cigar is supposed to relay notes of maple and vanilla, just like a glass of the 2013 Utopias.

Would you pay $199 for a bottle of Utopias and/or try a beer-scented cigar?
