The UConn men’s basketball team earned their first No. 1 ranking since March 2, 2009. Here’s a tale of the tape looking at both teams:

How it happened

2008-09: UConn held the top spot for three weeks but dropped to No. 2 after a loss to Pittsburgh the week before. Pitt took the top spot and lost to Providence, moving UConn back to No. 1 after three straight wins.

2023-24: All three teams ranked ahead of fourth-ranked UConn lost as the Huskies won five straight, two on the road, without Donovan Clingan.
