Customize the eggs by picking your favorite colors or adding embellishments like ribbon or glitter. Collect Craft Supplies First, collect everything you need to paint wood eggs. Look for wooden Easter eggs in your local crafts supply store or online. We found them for as little as $5 per bag of eight. You'll also want a collection of craft punches with a mix of shapes, like flowers, stars, or dots, to make the designs for your wooden eggs. Lastly, use vinyl tape, such as electrical tape, to make your stencils. Look for tape that's 3 mm to 4 inches wide or cut a wider tape to size as desired. Paul Brissman Cut Out Shapes from Tape Create stencils for your eggs by using craft punches to cut shapes from vinyl tape. To align the tape when punching designs, hold the punch upside down so you can see where you are punching. Apply Tape to Eggs Apply your stencils to the eggs and use your fingers to press down firmly along the edges of each shape to ensure it's tightly adhered. You can apply either the strip of tape for a painted design, or the cutout stickers for silhouettes of the shapes. Paint Wooden Easter Eggs Create a color wash by mixing two parts of craft paint with one part of water. With a slightly dry brush, apply the color wash to the wooden eggs, starting at the edges of the stencils. Once painted, let the eggs dry and remove the tape. If desired, add embellishments like glitter to your painted wooden Easter eggs before displaying them in a basket, on a spring wreath, or as a table centerpiece. Paint wooden Easter eggs with a slightly dry brush to give your designs a crisp edge.
