New York City’s Best Night Tours

June 26 2023

New York – the city that never sleeps – is one of the best cities in the world to explore after dark. With illuminated skyscrapers, 24-hour diners, and endless things to do, New York is a mecca for night owls.

Wandering around a city you don’t know well at nighttime can be nerve-wracking, especially a big city like New York – but it doesn’t have to be. The Big Apple is home to plenty of night tours to see the city after sunset – with a guide and a group to give you peace of mind while you see NYC in a different light.

Night Lights Tour

“Bright Lights, Big City” – when the sun goes down in New York, just about everything else lights up. Whether it’s the skyscrapers, the store front displays, digital boards, or the city’s iconic landmarks – lights are everywhere, and you can see them all from the Night Lights Tour. Passengers are taken through the city to see landmarks such as Times Square and the Empire State Building in an open-top, double-decker bus – meaning you can see the best of the city’s skyline without leaving the comfort of your seat.

Nighttime Walking Tour

Walking tours are one of the best ways to get to know a neighborhood quickly and notice the little things you might otherwise miss from buses and boat trips. The Nighttime Walking Tour provides a guide to explore the city with and point out the hidden gems that even locals might miss. The Nighttime Walking Tour will take you through a variety of neighborhoods, like Greenwich Village or the Lower East Side. Book tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

River Cruises

River cruises are one of the nicest ways to see the city – and night tours are no different. The best way to see the New York skyline is from the water, and for most people, it’s much more beautiful at night. As well as the skyline, an evening cruise on the Hudson River tour will also take you to see the illuminated Lady Liberty. When you’re not taking in the sights, the cruise also offers live music and an excellent selection of cocktails to enjoy, with dinner cruises also available.

Going Solo

If you’re not into tours or you prefer your own company – there are plenty of places in New York that are safe to explore at night. Greenwich Village, Williamsburg, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Midtown Manhattan, and Brooklyn Heights are all considered safe neighborhoods – even when the sun has gone down. Be vigilant, as you would walking alone at night at home, and let someone know your plans and when you get back to your hotel safely!
