An RAAF DC-3 Dakota (serial no. A65-71, VH-CIN), seen flying over the Australian War Memorial on its last flight. In July 1945 the same aircraft had been used to transport the body of PM John Curtin from Canberra to Perth for burial. The DC-3 was taken into the Memorial's collection on 18 October 1981 and stored at Duntroon until 1985. In 1986 the RAAF and the AWM entered into an agreement whereby the aircraft was loaned to the RAAF for an initial period of 5 years, renewable every 2 years thereafter, to enable the plane to be flown at Heritage events and airshows. This agreement continued until August 1997. Between 27 January and 2 February 1996, just prior to the Williamstown Airshow in May, it was repainted by the RAAF Paintshop, Richmond in the current paint scheme, representative of its markings from 1945. It was flown from Richmond Airbase to Canberra for storage on Tuesday 5 August 1997.
