Levirtis Gipson was born October 26, 1953 in Rankin County, Mississippi to Ora Dean Gipson. He was the oldest of ten siblings. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined the New McRaven Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
He attended Westside Elementary-Junior High School. While Levirtis was a graduate of the 1971 class of Forest Hill High School, he is also a beloved friend of the 1971 class of Sumner Hill High School. Levirtis also attended Jackson State University.
On July 19, 1975, he married his life-long soul mate, Edna Griffin. To this union of forty-five years, they were blessed with two children, Jeffrey Ladell and Tredrick Jermaine. Levirtis Gipson departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
He made friends everywhere he went: Working for three decades at G&O Manufacturing where he touched many lives. Later in life, he began working for the Jackson Medical Mall, befriending many others including his good friend Bobby Sawyer. Many evenings, Lee would come home to tell his wife stories of the babies that he transported while he worked as a Bus Driver for Hinds County Project Head Start. He had a soft spot for children. Finally, “Papa Smurf” as he was called by his buddy Greggory Chase and beloved JATRAN family, was a dedicated member and employee for several years.
His memory will be forever cherished by: His loving and devoted wife Edna; two children, Jeffrey Ladell of Humble, Texas and Tredrick Jermaine of Franklin, Tennessee; granddaughter, Khaliyah Zi’ann of Humble, Texas; his mother Ora Dean Gipson McNeil; two sisters, Patricia and Jacqueline Diane; seven brothers, Johnny, James (Jessie), Kenneth (Denise), Glen (Arthurine), Michael, Marvin (Ethel), Charlie (Sonya), all of Jackson, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Brenda (Charles) Hobson and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William McNeil, grandparents, Lee Bertha and Charlie Dotson, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Odell and Ophelia Griffin and brother-in-law, James Earl Griffin.
