These lights are ruggedly built with metal brackets and casings. Never had a problem with them becoming overly hot even after running for hours . However after 11 months of daily use one of them stopped working. I estimate it had about 5000 hours of run time on it before it went out . If I remember correctly they were advertised to run 3 times longer than that so that was disappointing

As far as how a blacklight works, GREAT! Buuut don't expect to have this on full time. It's not like a traditional blacklight bar where the lights are... Dark. NO! This is equivalent to some moron who has their brights on in your rear-view mirror. This is BRIGHT! It can easily give you a headache even if you're not active looking at it. Other than that, I guess it does it's job as being a black light.
