In just four years, makeup trends have changed so much that one beauty YouTuber took it upon herself to show people how. In a YouTube tutorial titled, "2016 vs. 2020 Makeup Trends," beauty influencer Ashley Quiroz illustrated how trends have transformed over time by doing a look from each year on either side of her face. Now the video is going viral because it couldn't be more spot-on.

For those who might not remember, makeup in 2016 was all about bold eyes, cut creases, contouring, and liquid lipstick galore (thank you, Kylie Jenner). Nowadays, though, we're seeing more natural-looking makeup, with an emphasis on glowing skin, glossy eyes, and feathery brows. In the description section of Quiroz's video, she writes, "2016 was SUCH an iconic year for the beauty community so it was crazy to look back and see how much trends have changed." She then prompted subscribers to let her know which look they prefer, or if they fall somewhere in the middle.

As you can see without even watching the video, the two looks are drastically different. The makeup from 2016, which Quiroz did on her left side, is sultry, strong (just peep that brow), and super smoky, while the 2020 look is soft, ethereal, and much more minimal. For instance, you can tell that she's wearing far less complexion and eye makeup, and her brows are full and fluffy with no harsh lines. You'll also notice the beautiful gems around her eyes — as it turns out, embellished eyes are going to be huge this year.

Quiroz's video has already amassed over 17,000 views, along with a wellspring of comments from subscribers. One fan writes, "100% guilty of still doing 2016 makeup almost everyday bc I love the style but I respect the girls that rock the natural glam 2020 look. It's just not for me personally." Another adds, "And then there’s some of us still doing 90’s makeup which is a mix of both lmaooooo." (This just goes to show that despite ever-changing trends the majority of folks will always stick to doing the makeup that feels most like them.)

Curious to find out how Quiroz created each look? Tune in to the full tutorial, below, to watch her break it down.
