THE SUPERMODEL ERA

Cindy Crawford Recreated Her Signature '90s Hair and Makeup on a Vogue Cover

This is exactly why she's the epitome of a supermodel.

Cindy Crawford has been a blueprint for what makes a supermodel since the '80s — and she's clearly not stopping anytime soon. On Tuesday, she made our collective jaws drop as the cover star for Vogue Arabia's March 2023 issue with big bouncy curls and a darkened red lip.

Honestly, we could have easily believed that this was a cover shoot from the '90s rather than the present day. It reminded us of the vibrant red dress with a matching lip and vintage curls she wore for Revlon's 1990 Unforgettable Women Contest, or when she walked the runway for Chanel's 1993 spring/summer fashion show with even bigger curls and a similar bright lip.

For the 2023 cover, she had an updated version of the look with a matte berry lip. She looked like an absolute dream, smiling in the profile shot with a leather jacket hanging off her shoulder. The supermodel's big voluminous curls surrounded her face and cascaded past her shoulders. Our favorite part of the hairstyle was the lack of a visible part; some of her hair was simply swept to the side giving it an effortless bombshell vibe that only a supermodel like Crawford can achieve. The darkened reddish matte hue on her lips looked absolutely stunning with her massive curls.

This shoot comes just a few days after model Gisele Bündchen's March 2023 cover shoot for Vogue Italia where she looked completely unrecognizable with blood-red hair and paper-thin eyebrows. Similar to Crawford, Bündchen helped shaped the meaning of a supermodel when she entered the industry in the late 1990s. Could these two cover shoots signal a new supermodel renaissance?
