As a bonafide musical theater nerd, I feel qualified to declare that Sandy in Grease doesn't have to be blonde. That said, because the most iconic portrayal of the role is that of the late, great Olivia Newton-John, it's understandable if your Sandy Halloween costume incorporates a blonde wig. That said, I was still completely taken aback when I saw one of the world's most iconic brunettes, Cindy Crawford, doing exactly that.
Over the weekend, Crawford attended the Halloween party thrown every year by Casamigos, the tequila brand co-owned by her husband, Rande Gerber. The couple had one of the most recognizable costumes at the bash, dressed as Sandy and Danny from Grease. But the supermodel wasn't dressed as just any Sandy — she was dressed as end-of-the-movie, questionable-life-choices Sandy.
That, of course, means that Crawford was donning a voluminous, curly, golden blonde wig, just like the teased look Newton-John wore to sing “You're the One That I Want.” The shoulder-length style is unlike anything we've seen on the modeling legend, but needless to say, she looked absolutely incredible, especially considering the accuracy of the whole get-up. The red lipstick, hoop earrings, black bodysuit, shiny pants, and leather jacket — it's a perfect replica.
Crawford wasn't the only member of the famous family to sport a double-take-inducing hairstyle for Halloween. Daughter and fellow model Kaia Gerber dressed up as Edie Sedgwick, which meant wearing a shaggy pixie cut. She posed alongside boyfriend Austin Butler, who wore an even shaggier blonde wig to top off his Andy Warhol costume.
Sure, Kaia is closer to Sandy's age than her mom is, but as someone who just played a teen in a community theater production of Grease at age 44 (like I said, I'm a musical theater nerd), I love seeing how truly ageless the Pink Ladies and T-Birds are.
