Who created Japan’s Yonaguni Monument? Man, Nature… Aliens?

The Yonaguni Monument or the Yonaguni Submarine Ruins is an incredibly fascinating underwater rock formation shrouded in mystery. The underwater monument is located off the coast of Yonaguni Island in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. The site was discovered in the late 1980s and several theories have come up about its origins since then. It definitely has to do with its appearance.

The cause of all speculations is the stepped monoliths. Something like this underwater is bound to baffle even the best. Some even speculate that this site was alien-made!

Who created Japan’s Yonaguni Monument? Man, Nature… Aliens?

Theory 1: Work of nature

In comes the tectonic activity. Some researchers believe that the site is the result of natural geological formation. These formations could be the work of years (read 20 million years) of erosion and tectonic activities. Basically, the idea is that the earth moves and it gives birth to new formations.

Theory 2: It is man-made

Given the nature of the monument, that is, the stepped monoliths with perfect right-angles and more, some researchers are unwilling to accept that a structure like this is not man-made. The structure definitely belongs to the ancient time and, as per their theory, these structures were created by people from the ancient civilisation, using stone tools. Looking at the monuments, one can imagine them as ceremonial platforms or even some kind of fortress! These structures date back to 12000 years ago.

Theory 3: Aliens did it.

This theory is probably as true as unicorns are.

On a more serious note, it is also believed that this structure could be the result of both nature and human touch. We call it modification. While the Yonaguni Monument may have started as a natural formation, there’s a possibility that it could have been modified by ancient people, using their stone tools.

Over time, the structure got submerged like a lot of other places on Earth.

Again, as mentioned above, it’s the nature and the shape of the structure that makes one doubt all over again. Were the ancient people’s construction techniques that ahead of their time?

Needless to say, the Yonaguni Monument is an ongoing research, and we wait patiently for the mystery to be finally over one fine day. Advanced technology like underwater sonar mapping, 3D modeling, and geophysical studies have all been used to determine the origin of this mysterious site. We will wait and watch.
