At The Herd Juicery in West Long Branch, NJ, we always use fresh turmeric root. We love this ingredient because of its versatility and powerful health benefits. We use turmeric everyday whether it’s in juices, lattes, lemonade, or shots.

Turmeric is a vibrant yellow-orange root that has some amazing health benefits. Turmeric has a natural bright orange color thanks to the high levels of Curcumin found in it. Curcumin is also the compound responsible for many of the health benefits found in turmeric.

Check out this list of our top 4 health benefits of turmeric!

  1. Anti-Inflammatory

Turmeric may be best known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Using turmeric regularly can naturally fight inflammation. In fact, multiple studies have concluded that turmeric may be just as helpful for inflammation as some medications such as Advil or Aspirin.

2. Eliminates Free Radicals and Provides Antioxidants

Not getting sick can be tough during the cold and flu season. However, there are a ton of superfoods out there that will help you keep your immune system in check. Turmeric is one of those foods. Turmeric has antioxidants which helps fight free radicals, which means it can prevent you from getting a bad cold.

3. Prevents cancer and other diseases.

Turmeric has been linked to preventing, treating and/or slowing down diseases such as Alzheimers, Rheumatoid arthritis, depression, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. Numerous studies have been conducted on each of these diseases, but keep in mind that research is ongoing for these claims.

4. High Amounts of Vitamin C and more

Most of the health benefits we’ve covered so far relate to the high levels of curcumin found in turmeric. However, there are so many more great vitamins that deserve the spotlight: beta-carotene, vitamin C, calcium, flavonoids, fiber, iron, niacin, potassium, zinc are all found in turmeric.

Fact: Consuming turmeric with black pepper can increase the absorption of curcumin by 2000%!

Black pepper contains a compound called ‘piperine.’ This compound makes curcumin more bioavailable, which means that it is easier for the body to absorb.
