The Salto Ángel-Venezuela (the highest water jump in the world)

It is the highest jump water world with a height of 979 m (807 m of uninterrupted fall).

It is located in the Canaima National Park in Bolivar State, Venezuela.

A protected area, established as a national park on June 12, 1962 and declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, extends over an area of over 30,000 square kilometers (similar to the land area of Belgium), to the border Brazil and the Essequibo territory (currently in claim) and its size is the largest in the world.

This jump was known by the natives of the region but its official discovery remains a matter of discussion. Some historians attribute it to Fernando de Berrio, Spanish explorer and governor of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The first explorer to reach the river that feeds the falls in area inhabited by the Pemon was the Latvian Aleksandrs Laime. He made the ascent of Auyan-tepui in 1955. He gave the river the name of one of the most beautiful rivers in Latvia, the Gauja River.

Laime also was the first European to travel a path that leads from the river Churun to the base of the falls. On the way there is a geographical point commonly used to photograph the falls.

Angel Falls is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Venezuela, but even today, a trip to the falls is not a simple matter, because the area is isolated by the thick jungle, and the tepuis make navigation dangerous air.

This jump was the inspiration (next to Auyantepuy and other Tepuis and Canaima National Park sites) of the fictional jungle in the American animated film of 2009 Disney Pixar won two Oscars, called Up.

In turn, the Disney film of 2000 "Dinosaur", used real pictures of Canaima National Park and Angel Falls in several scenes of the film.

Similarly, in the 1998 film What Dreams May Come (English What Dreams May Come) starring Robin Williams (also winner of an Oscar).

The site was used as inspiration for the movie "Dragon Fly" in Spanish "The Mystery Dragonfly" where Kevin Costner finds his daughter, who did not know his birth there.
