Origin/Ecology: Native to southest Asia, Japan, China.
Habit: Round, horizontal, stiffly upright, spreading, growing to 0.7 m tall, 3 m wide.
Leaves: Entire, leathery, lustrous, lanceolate, oblanceolate.
Leaf Arrangement: opposite
Flowers and Fruit: Borne on underside of branches. Amethyst, almost transparent berries. Leaves cover flowers and berries, making them less noticeable.

Water Use, Soil: Prefers rich soil, well-drained.
Exposure: Full sun to part shade. Only tolerates sun if not too dry.
Landscape Uses:Erosion control, ground cover, group or mass planting, mixed shrub border, small garden/space, spring interest.
