Lindsay Davenport: Why the Atlanta Olympics Were So Special to Me and My Family

In preparation for the 2016 Rio Olympics, PEOPLE’s latest Mom Talk episode features three mothers of former Olympic athletes and one mom who was an athlete herself. The women gathered to discuss the challenges and rewards of being a mother in the world of sports.

Tennis superstar and 1996 Atlanta Games gold medalist Lindsay Davenport says her moment in the Olympics spotlight was made even more special by the fact that her entire family came out to support her.

“I remember standing up there with my whole family there, which has never happened again!” she said. “My parents were so happy!”

Davenport, 40, and her husband Jonathan Leach have four children: Haven Michelle, 2½, Kaya Emory, 4½, Lauren Andrus, 7, and Jagger Jonathan, 9.

The tennis champion, who called winning the gold in 1996 “the biggest thing in my whole career,” spends time with her kids outside (and on the tennis court!), documenting it all on social media.

“My blonde mini me,” she captioned a 2015 Twitter photo with her daughter Lauren.

“So this was fun today @wimbledon. Love my little man,” she tweeted earlier in 2015 of spending time with Jagger at the famous London All England Club.
