Makeup for brown eyes may seem tricky to pick out at first. Brown is such a neutral color that it can be like starting with a blank slate; which is a good thing. If you are picking out eye make up for any other color, you have to be careful. Too much green shadow on green eyes can make you look washed out. If you try to use blue liner on blue eyes, you look like you should take a time machine back to the ’80s.

Brown is a free-for-all, which in turn can be overwhelming when trying to narrow down your eye makeup. Below are a few makeup tips for brown eyes that will hopefully help you in your search for the perfect accent colors that will make your brown eyes shine!

  • Eye make up for brown eyes that have a red undertone can bring out the depth and richness of the brown. Use deep rich browns and mahogany colors to accent the underlying tones.
  • Shades of blue look amazing on brown eyes. You can use a blue liner to lighten up your daytime look instead of the harshness of black.
  • For an evening look, go metallic. It can be a brown-eyed girl's best friend. Go more dramatic for a cocktail dinner by using gold-tone metallic.
  • Green makeup ideas for brown eyes are limitless. Green can be good for a day or evening look. Green looks so vibrant on brown eyes. It can emphasize even the smallest flecks of green in the eyes.
  • Purple is another great eye make up for brown eyes at any time of the day. You can choose a matte purple for the day and a shimmery version for an evening look.
  • If you want a dramatic look, without going too dark, try a brown smokey eye instead of black. Try a pop of gold in the inner corners for a bit of light that really makes the eyes stand out.
  • For a fresh, just left the beach look, try going with shades of pink and nudes. It will make your eyelids look fresh and dewy. The deeper or brighter pinks can be a bit more flattering.
  • If you want to go with a brown shadow, play it up with a brighter color in the corners of your eyes or on your lips.
  • Also, consider using a matte brown in the creases of your eyes to add warmth and bring out their natural color.
  • Don’t be afraid of color! Brown is just your starting point. Use different color liners on your lower lash line to add a pop!
  • Use brown mascara for a more natural daytime look. Choose black mascara for a breathtaking evening look.
  • There are so many makeup tips for brown eyes, but the most important one I have learned is if you are going bold on your eyes, make the rest of your makeup more neutral. This will make your brown eyes pop. The opposite goes for bolder cheek and lip color. You will want to go more neutral on the eyes.

Again, I know it can be overwhelming to figure out how to do makeup for brown eyes. The real honest answer is that there is no wrong way. The makeup ideas for brown eyes are endless. So, just have fun with it. Make it an adventure. Just be patient and try out different colors of eye makeup for brown eyes that work best for you.
